When a natural disaster occurs it is important for companies to focus on employees needs. Although it may be tempting to crack the whip and get back to business as usual as quickly as possible, it’s best to avoid rushing stressed, traumatized employees back to work. They probably won’t be able to focus on their jobs until they have a handle on their situation, and they deserve the time and support it takes to get there. https://lnkd.in/eaHzCMkz

This week’s #wisdomwednesday statement continues the theme of the marginal value of non-constraint resources. An important element of Synchronous Management is managing the flow of value-added work. One necessary condition to achieve operational stability is to have an unbalanced system, which is when most resources (non-bottleneck resources) have protective capacity. Protective capacity is the additional capacity that is needed to overcome problems or disruptions that impede the flow of value-added activities. Protective capacity can come in a variety of forms, including, but not limited to, inventory (stored capacity), resource availability, and time. The key is to have sufficient protective capacity to overcome disruptions in the flow before the disruption affects the overall productivity of the organization. A general rule of thumb: the more dependencies in the organization or the more variability (problems) within the organization, the more protective capacity that is needed to achieve stability. #futurestateengineering #organizationalperformance #operationalexcellence #protectivecapacity
