An example of systemic governance was the Tokyo 2020 Olympics postponement, where multiple stakeholder interests had to be balanced. 🔹 Political Governance: How governments impact sports organizations through regulations and incentives. Today we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Day, a day to reflect on the impact and legacy that Spain has left on the world, especially in football. Spanish football is at its best. Not only because of the accumulated triumphs in all categories, from the senior team to the lower categories, but also because of the constant presence and dominance in international competitions. Spanish clubs have won numerous Champions Leagues, consolidating their supremacy in Europe. But it is not just about results. Spanish football has exported its knowledge and methodology to the entire world. A clear example of this is the influence of Spanish coaches in the Premier League, one of the most competitive leagues in the world, where the quality and tactical vision of our technicians have made the difference. Within this success, the Pons Method, also born in Spain, represents a methodological advance that seeks to perfect both individual and collective performance. This methodology is consolidating itself as a global reference for the development of modern football, not only in Spain, but in many other parts of the world. Today we celebrate Hispanic heritage, not only as a cultural heritage, but also as a sporting legacy that continues to set trends worldwide. davidponscoach.com

Last month, some highly distinguished sports professionals and I spoke at the INTERNATIONAL SPORTS CONVENTION on the subject of an independent integrity agency for sport. Here are some of the key takeaways from that session... 🙋♂️ An independent sports integrity agency concept, whether regional, global, sport-specific (as with tennis) or pan-sport, could help address the pertinent integrity issues and challenges faced today. This could be a role similar to that played by WADA in the anti-doping arena. 📛 The current landscape is sub-optimal. There are clear conflicts of interest, significant cultural obstacles and an all-too-common unwillingness to address problems. There is also room for improvement in efficiency and transparency. ⚽🏏🎾 Different sports and governing bodies approach different integrity issues in different ways. Consistency is lacking. 👟 Athletes and participants should be keen on the idea: ultimately it is about protecting them, as well as the fans, sponsors and businesses engaged in sport. Trust is paramount. 📑 At the very least, there should be a review that identifies the key issues and how best to address them. 💬 Quote of the day: "Everything seems difficult until it is done".

Marcelo Bielsa’s press conference was a breath of unstuffy, uncorporate fresh air. I can’t remember the last time I watched an entire 45-minute press conference of this sort. It was a fútbol culture clash that only a Copa America held in the US could bring. It was on-brand for the man. And I admire that about him. It was spontaneous, risky. It spoke Latin American truth to American power. It was passionately one-sided and casually ignored a few key facts, a hallmark of his/my region of the world. There are a few things I wish he had said: 1) The US sports industrial complex has to stop acting like US sports fans and Latin American Hinchas are the same and behave in the same ways. They don’t, proven by the events in the Uruguay-Colombia game and last night’s pre-game incidents. 2) 🇫🇷 3) By all means, improve the experience. But don’t try to make everything the Superbowl. There are no natural breaks in fútbol during the game like in all North American sports. That’s what halftime is for. 4) 🇦🇷 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

LEARNING IS A LIFELONG PROCESS OF ACQUIRING & KNOWLEDGE SHARING AS ONE BECOMES WISER DAILY The African Football Business Summit 2024 (#AFBSummit2024) in its third version (took place again at the same location of the Weston Hotel Nairobi) offered learning opportunities to all both in the field of sports and to many other walks of life! It was a special event in which the sport of #football was used as a wonderful tool for learning! Great to see how football can be used as a catalytic tool to bring together global experts in research and industry to foster developments in Africa! This third version was a sort of a turning point: the #AfricanApproachOfDevisingSolutions is now moving more into the #CoreOfTheExpertSolutions presented with the #KnowlegeHungry #AfricanYouths taking more and more the initiatives themselves! The #BigPromise showing up is how #Africans will henceforth use not only the #EmergingTechnologies but also the #SportsBusiness to #leapfrog her developments! Very promising too is that number of #astutute and #willful #learners like Kiptoo Mirmet who wilfully leave their responsibilities of the #innovative new clubs like Eldoret FC they #grow simply to attend the #summit, in their quest for knowledge! #Wow!
Building the future of football through education, technology, and meaningful content—empowering athletes and fostering community growth for a lasting impact on and off the field.
In just four days, my friend Anwenwillie Fru Ndenge (Dr.-Ing.) taught and showed me invaluable lessons that I would have never learned from studying or in a classroom setting. His depth of knowledge and real-life experience opened my eyes to practical insights that truly made a difference. The Africa Football Business Summits have provided an incredible platform to meet like-minded individuals who are seasoned and experienced in the sports industry. The intense meetings and wisdom shared by Anwenwillie Fru Ndenge (Dr.-Ing.) and his colleagues—professors, business leaders, and other industry elites—have been truly transformative. These experts generously shared their knowledge, offering fresh perspectives on sports management, marketing, and the role of academia in sports. The discussions we had were not only enriching but also sparked ideas that will impact how we approach the football business back home. Each conversation, whether in formal sessions or during breaks, was an opportunity to learn something new. It was inspiring to meet individuals who are passionate about sports development and who are working to elevate African football on a global scale. The summit, along with Dr. Fru's mentorship, was a life-changing experience that has given me the confidence and tools to make a meaningful impact in my own field. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to applying these lessons as I continue to grow in the football industry.
