Conflict and climate feed into each other, so why do we keep talking about them in isolation? 💬 We’re delighted to share Episode 2 of Climate+, our brand-new show exploring the intersectionality of climate change and social justice created in collaboration with Oxfam GB. Did you know that of the 25 countries facing the worst climate-related threads, 13 of them are also experiencing in conflict? It’s a vicious cycle — one that Joi Lee expertly breaks down in this episode. We also speak to Watan Mohamed, a young climate activist from Sudan who has been fighting to ensure that climate change remains a part of the conversation surrounding the brutal civil war that’s being fought in her country. A massive shout-out to the entire creative and editorial teams working their magic behind the scenes to bring this series to your screens — this has been one of our most challenging yet rewarding projects to work on to date! Watch it below and let us know what you think! 👇

As heat waves, storms, droughts and wildfires get worse, at times simply talking about the crisis feels like a wholly insufficient solution. Yet time and time again, we see that straightforward conversations are one of the best ways to share information, find common ground and inspire action. So how can we make our climate conversations really count? For our latest episode, Greg Dalton and Ariana Brocious revisit powerful climate discussions with leaders like Katharine Hayhoe, Meera Subramanian, Faith Kearns, author Anand Giridharadas, Chloe M., and John Cook of Skeptical Science.

More often than not, the enormity of climate change can leave us feeling powerless. It's a problem too big for any one person or organization to tackle alone. However, there is power in collective action. By taking many small steps together, we can make a significant difference. Not only do these steps contribute to the larger goal, but they also help us discover new and innovative ways to address climate change. Let's work together to create a sustainable future for all. #ClimateAction #Sustainability #TogetherWeCan

The future is worth saving, especially for the young and future generations, who are among the most vulnerable groups to the impacts of climate change. Climate change, alongside other environmental threats, continues to affect our lives, livelihoods, and our future. As such, ensuring access to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is a basic and fundamental human right for all. Recently at #cop28 , I engaged in a 'Heart to Heart' conversation with Felipe Paullier Olivera, the first United Nations Assistant Secretary-General on Youth and the head of the United Nations Youth office. We shared our thoughts on envisioning the future for the youth amidst the challenges posed by the climate crisis. Additionally, I shared my advice with him on how best to collaborate and work with the youth in the climate space. Let's continue these vital conversations and work together to secure a future where the rights and well-being of the youth and future generations are safeguarded against the impacts of environmental challenges. #ClimateAction #YouthEngagement #SustainableFuture
Why do you think the future is worth saving? 🤔 In this latest chapter of our Heart-to-Heart discussion series, Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change member Fatou Jeng and United Nations Youth Office Assistant Secretary-General Felipe Paullier Olivera share their thoughts on why involving young people in decision-making processes at all levels is so critical. Disinformation multiplied by the power of global social platforms have allowed for climate change action to be delayed. In this dialogue between Shanghai-based Richard Brubaker and Imran Ahmed, we understand better not only how the platforms have allowed for a bigger share of voice of denialism, but also how the content has changed over the last few years. The Center for Countering Digital Hate's in-depth analysis gives a wealth of data on the web of deception that can bring inaction as well as its financial implication (YouTube makes up to $13.4 million a year from channels posting denial), but also some encouraging data that shows that science is making progress at getting the message across (Old Denial Vs New Denial). A must-read for communicators involved in sustainability. https://lnkd.in/ddYG_H6f
In this episode, I speak to Imran Ahmed, Founder and CEO of the Center for Countering Digital Hate, about his recent research showing how the patterns around climate denialism on social media have changed, and how the design and business models of various social media platforms have held a megaphone to a small number of actors and profited off the amplication of this misinformation. It's a conversation that is not limited to climate change by any means and offers incredible insights into the processes and behaviors that support misinformation as well as what needs to be done to address those gaps. To date, this may be one of the most important conversations I've had to date. Thank you Lexington K. Colm Coakley Ben Weich Jalesa Young for your support! Jonathan Foley
