Congrats to Lindsay Black, our Marquette Branch’s Service Delivery Lead, on getting nominated for July’s I.C.E. Award! These kind words from her colleagues tell you all you need to know about why she deserves this recognition. “Lindsay is wonderful to work for and work with. She's excellent at guiding her team through the implementation of changes—always thinking about different approaches to problems that help Easy Ice put the customer first, and defining strategies for service delivery that have tangible, positive results. Beyond her skills as a manager, she's 100% willing and super apt at rolling up her sleeves and doing the trench work in service delivery (and she's like, SCARY good at it). If she gets directly involved in a customer issue, it's going to get results, and they are going to be a customer for life.” “Lindsay is the bedrock, always there, foundation of our SD team. She cares deeply about all of our well being, as well as that of our company and our customers. She has a wealth of knowledge, and is always happy to share with us! She leads by example always—never dumping the gritty tasks to us and always willing to lend a hand. She’s always in a good mood and setting a positive tone in our environment! She makes all of us better employees!” Lindsay, words like that from your team tell us a whole lot about your dedication to your work, your colleagues, and Easy Ice as a whole. Thank you so much for all that you do, we appreciate you!

Most of us in the workforce spend more time with our colleagues than we do with our family and friends. And many of us work within a ''team''. You know the saying, ''you can pick your friends but not your family''. Well, the same can be said for your colleagues. I visited our client, Holmesglen, today to present the CSBA Association for Tertiary Education Management Customer Excellence Award. I noticed this ''Team Family Tree'' on display. Naturally I asked about it as I'd never seen one before. I was told it's a visual representation of their team, all branches (people) together make up this majestic tree (their team). As new people join, the tree will continue to grow new branches. I love what this tree represents. The team love being part of this tree. To win a team award for Customer Service Excellence, every team member needs to contribute. They need to work as a team. They understand they are the first and last impression for the customer. They know that without branches, there can be no tree. Is your team a tree? #teamwork #customerexperience #engagedemployees #customerserviceexcellence

AND ANOTHER AWARD GOES TO… Opening up my LinkedIn feed this morning and I was greeted with more of what seems like endless self-acclaim for winning some industry award of which there are now apparently thousands. Okay – I get it. LinkedIn is now a platform for narcissism, self-aggrandizement, back slapping and just general “Look at me how great I and my team are” posts. But the whole award thing has gotten out of hand. Because business has fallen into the trap of feeling compelled to compete and give folks the chance for industry awards, the whole industry awards business has become expert at tapping this vein – creating award after award, and an endless tier of prizes within each award category to feed a greedy industry that serves no true benefit. Ahh, but “awards make us feel good” you’d argue. They say who we are in the vast competitive pecking order. Well, I’d argue – “Uh don’t we all work for the collective goal of driving business – ours or the clients?” “Isn’t the actual reward just seeking SATISFACTION – creatively, emotionally and intellectually – ACHIEVED WITH A JOB DONE TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITIES?” “And then when done often enough – and measurably enough – that we see the financial rewards through promotions, raises, bonuses (clients renewing contracts?) et al?” There’s a term called “scarcity value” that applies here. Think of awards like pies. The first one you dig into is great. But the more and more you have of them, the less and less you derive joy from each, therefore diminishing the value (but likely increasing your stomach ache!). Personally, I’d rather receive or dole out the occasional and sincerely offered “Great job [NAME HERE]” than almost anything else. But then I grew up with one boss especially stingy with compliments – but each rare pronouncement making me feel like I could walk on water. So how about it people? Less sharing of awards on this platform (if you want to keep paying for the privilege of displaying more shiny statues go ahead), more meaningfully recognizing rare and true achievement. Oh, and if you enjoyed this post, please no awards or bouquets – a simple “like” is all the affirmation I need. #TOOMANYAWARDS #SUCCESSISITSOWNREWARD
This next award goes to somebody who really lights up the office.

Celebrate major achievements — but don’t forget the small wins! Its often easier in a fast paced sales environment to recognise some team members more than others, based on achievement. This might be because what they produce is more visible than others. It’s great to celebrate these big wins! Exceeding expectations on sales revenue and growth, equally important is to not forget about celebrating those smaller or less obvious successes, too. Every sale counts, every customer counts, all achievements count. Recognising each member of my team for their contributions to the business and making a point to highlight achievements that might otherwise fly under the radar encourages continued strong performance. Excited to share an exceptional 5* Trustpilot review in recognition of great customer service from a very valued member of the Team. #newbusinesssales #victorianplumbing #excellentcustomerservice #recognitions
