Leading the way in transparency - if you feel there is something missing from my LinkedIn profile, please look again, but feel free to let me know, it's all about the growth mindset!
So awesome! By the time of our 30th anniversary next May we should pass the 60 milestone - that is 60 people with intellectual disabilities or autistic persons supported by LiveWorkPlay to move to a home of their own in the community. In some cases this is their first home outside of their family home, in other cases it is deinstitutionalization, supporting the person to leave a group living facility or other institutional setting. There is a lot more variety of that than people might expect, everything from hospital psychiatric wards, to the prison system, to domiciliary hostels, to long-term care facilities. Imagine leaving any of those environments and getting your own key to your own door. It is actually hard to imagine without some direct experience in those environments.
Mickel Delorme and Stephen Mullins (pictured below entertaining guests at his housewarming) are recipients 58/59 of the My Own Home bursary at Make a Buzz Ottawa, May 10, 2024 celebrating individuals supported by LiveWorkPlay who move to a home of their own. Details: https://lnkd.in/djH5sY9j

To date, I have enrolled in two seasons "Four Seasons of Indigenous Learning" and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking to understand the shared histories of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. This program has profoundly influenced my ability to be a respectful guest on Indigenous lands. It tackles the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action, specifically Section 63, which urges the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, to maintain an annual commitment to Aboriginal* education issues. Section 63 emphasizes the development and implementation of Kindergarten to Grade Twelve curriculum and resources on Aboriginal peoples in Canadian history, including the history and legacy of residential schools. It also promotes the sharing of best practices in teaching about residential schools and Aboriginal history, building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect, and identifying the relevant teacher-training needs. This program is particularly valuable for educators who strive to fulfill these vital educational commitments. *N B. "Aboriginal" is a general term that collectively refers to First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Canada, and is found in the Canadian constitution. This distinction was legalized in 1982 when the Constitution Act came into being. #K12Education #Teachers #Educators #TurtleIsland #TreatyPeoples Source: North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE)

One step closer to finalizing the NCFP!
I'm back from a two-day workshop at the JIBC campus in New Westminster where we continued development of the NCFP Education and Practice Guidance. The workshop was full of encouraging conversations, sharing of ideas, and a desire to push paramedic education beyond current practice. We look forward to sharing the draft guidance document with educators across Canada in coming weeks. Grateful to Becky Donelon and her team for hosting us, and this amazing group of educators from across Canada! CEO JABBS Foundation improving lives for women and girls | Previously Assistant Police & Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands & Lawyer
The West Midlands has lost around 115 children’s centres due to government cuts in 2010. Nationally up to 1,000 were lost with cuts of over £2 billion. The people who built these, and the many people I’ve met who benefitted from and worked with Sure Start children’s centres, vouched for the huge social benefits they brought. Many of the advantages and life changes will be difficult to see, but the findings below are hugely important for making the social and economic case for this vital investment in communities. The new Family Hubs seek to do very similar things, and are to be welcomed. The government investment in these is a fraction of what is lost, but research like the below helps us justify the rebuilding of this powerful social infrastructure.
NEW: Sure Start, England’s first large programme to provide holistic support to families with children under five, greatly improved disadvantaged children’s GCSE results. Read our new report, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, on Sure Start’s impact on educational outcomes: https://lnkd.in/edt53wkA
