The education system in Wales is in the middle of a major transitional shift to the new #CurriculumForWales and we are proud to be supporting schools like Ysgol Y Grango to build and develop global dimensions in the curriculum and school ethos. Lynnete Sloan said: "Becoming part of the Alliance is allowing the school to provide opportunities for learners to become knowledgeable about their own culture, community, society and the world, and that of others, now and in the past and respect the needs and rights of others, as a member of a diverse society. The Global Schools Alliance has provided the platform needed for the school to realise its cultural capacity and build and grow global dimensions within the curriculum. Some of the key benefits of being a GSA member to our school are an increase in our cultural capital, the ability to develop T&L through cross curricular projects and shared vision, the opportunity to develop learners’ skills integral to the four purposes of the CfW, the ability to create meaningful and lasting international links, gaining accreditation from the Global School Alliance and being able to promote the school as a ‘leading’ or ‘champion’ school for Global Citizenship." Getting Children and Young People back to School I hated the end of the school holidays – even when I was a teacher/Principal. I loved it when I actually got back in there but the first day of school … Powderfinger sung it so well: It's coming round again Slowly creeping hand Of time and its command Soon enough it comes And settles in its place Its shadow in my face Puts pressure in my day At primary school I pretty much went all of the time – apart from when I could convince my mother that the chunder that looked a lot like fresh yogurt was real and/or that I had not stuck my fingers down my throat. At high school I went for the sport but wagged if there was something better to do – e.g. watching everyday of the 1984 Olympics, playing golf with my uncle. My high school was of very poor quality and without friends and sport I see very few other reasons I would have attended … oh … apart from those things called “qualifications” – which have certainly been helpful and I am thankful for – they have helped me do things like earn and income, buy a home, etc. For a range of reasons we now have a HUGE attendance problem in NZ – both in reference to our own history and by international standards. In Term 3 of 2023 full attendance in NZ was 45.9%. For most NZ schools Term 1, 2024, starts in 3 weeks. As a reader: What would you do to turn the situation around? When do you think the big new strategy will be released? Even if you have heard it before – this is possibly the best commentary on education ever: https://lnkd.in/g5nhKqGT Alwyn Poole Innovative Education Consultants https://lnkd.in/gSWGwDp7 https://lnkd.in/gAcKFAdK

*_“Education is one thing no one can take away from you.” —Elin Nordegren_* In a world where everything seems not to be working, there's one constant thing that keeps evolving and changing the course of our lives- *Education*. We've seen in times past the power of this tool, we've witnessed how effective it is in changing the tides and making a whole situation better. On the other hand, we've also seen how that not everyone has access to this golden opportunity called education either because of culture, ignorance, financial status, family background and so many others. Therefore, on a day like this, even as we celebrate the role of education and how much it has contributed to the peace and development of the world. We also choose to create the awareness that education is for everyone. Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility. Education is that long-term investment that contributes to the peace of our nation and the world at large. It's also that tool that liberates people and cause a positive impact. Your part? Educate someone, give out a book, volunteer to teach, encourage a child, sponsor a child, help spread this good news in and around your environment. The world will be a much better place if we all are educated!
