Discipline starts when your alarm clock goes off. Did you snooze and give in to the comfort? Or did you embrace the day and choose discipline?

I vividly remember the first morning of the rest of my life. I was falling behind and decided I needed to "make time." I'm not a "morning person" but set my alarm for 5:45a to get up and go train at 6:30. Well before my usual 7:45 wake up time. My alarm went off. I opened my eyes. I pushed the off button. I rolled over. It was too dark. It was too early. It was too hard. "I lost the battle," I thought as I began to drift back into the warm embrace of mediocrity. Something deep inside clicked. I was losing. I'm not a loser. Next thought, "you don't have to lose the war." I was up and getting after it. Side note: this is when I found out everyone had been taking it easy on me at the evening adult fundamentals class and the morning crowd would have no mercy.

Echelon Front - Man, does my brain ever play tricks on me first thing in the morning. "I need the extra sleep" or "I don't really having anything pressing to do this morning anyways". You've GOT to get up and get moving. The BS thoughts your brain is giving you almost always shut down by the time you've brushed your teeth. It can be a battle every morning, yes, but it's an easy and short one. You can do it!

Discipline also begins the night before: Sleeping on time to get sufficient rest makes implementing discipline to get up on or before the morning alarm goes off a lot easier.

Alarm, roll out of bed, make bed, go. I’ve never been much of a snooze button person - but making the bed has been the last few years

Live in Central Time zone and work in Eastern Time zone an hour away, so snooze is not an option.

Anytime I feel like that, which doesn’t happen too often anymore, I just repeat one single question to myself, “Do you want to be a quitter today, Charlie?”. The answer is always no and I get right up.

I try to be brutally honest with myself when I set my alarm. Am I going to attack tomorrow or not? This means I have agreed with myself when the alarm goes off, I get up. Just say no to snoozing!

If a senior citizen like me can do it, anyone can.
