Theories of culture change have identified Community Engagement as one of the most potent strategies to stimulate large-scale behavioral change – yet in the context of Open Science, Community Engagement is often overlooked or underestimated. In this session, we identify what Community Engagement is and how you can stimulate it. In particular, we focus on the growing International Network of Open Science and Scholarship Communities (INOSC), which has rapidly evolved into a network of 32 local hubs across 16 countries, with over 2300 researchers, ready to put Open Science to practice. We’ll explore how the principles of Community Engagement are put to practice in INOSC and how you can benefit from those in your local context. Dr. Emma draws a fascinating parallel between organizational development and the stages of human life. Just as humans progress from infancy to adulthood, organizations evolve through distinct phases. Let’s explore this analogy: Conception (Idea Stage): Like fetal development, startups begin with a spark—an idea. They’re fragile, full of potential, and need nurturing. 👶 Infancy (Early Days): Here, organizations take their first steps. They learn, adapt, and grow. Much like infants, they rely on guidance and care. 👧 Childhood (Growth Phase): Organizations gain strength, develop structures, and explore their surroundings. Just as children learn to walk and talk, startups find their voice. 👩 Juvenile (Adolescence): Adolescents grapple with identity and independence. Similarly, organizations face challenges, experiment, and seek their unique path. 👩⚖️ Adulthood  (Maturity): At this stage, organizations stand tall. They’ve weathered storms, honed their skills, and contribute meaningfully. Like adults, they navigate complexities. As we manage organizations, let’s remember their life cycle. Nurture them, celebrate their milestones, and recognize their humanity.
