Job description: Change, Communication and… Event #management? 🧐   On Thursday, November 23, there was the HENSOLDT Global IM SUMMIT: Around 150 IT colleagues from all around the world came together for inspiring keynotes, valuable networking sessions and – not to forget – to have a good time together at the after party. #socialnetworking 🥳👏   I had the honor to be one of the main organizers – and it was a great, though challenging experience. It was my first time organizing such a big event and I took away some key learnings:   🎯Planning: You can start as early as you want – the last few days before the event will be horribly stressful. Nevertheless, if you have a good & supportive team, everything can be made possible.   🎯Hosting: If you participate in an event, you normally just go there and enjoy. Maybe you admire the nice location or the good food. Since I have been hosting such events myself, I always go to the responsible persons to thank them. Just because I know, what big effort there is behind it.   🎯Moderating: I always liked to talk in front of people – and I also got used to it during my studies. That is why this part was the least challenging. Nevertheless, I took away, that time is always “against you”: You can plan everything exactly in time. But if there is a delay – and there will be at least one – you just have to be confident enough, be flexible and adjust your planning.   👉To “SummIT-up”: I am perfectly happy with our event – not least thanks to the engagement, participation and good mood of all my IM team colleagues. We all know that "the growth zone is outside of your comfort zone", but how often do we really, truly, take on new challenges with the excitement to grow? In our day-to-day lives, it's easy to settle into routines and comfort zones, but it's the "firsts" that shape us and push us forward. In my roles so far, as part of my responsibilities I've organized events for several target groups, industries, and age groups but never for MY team. Yes, I love organizing client events and smaller parties for my friends and family, but for MY TEAM? "Oh, I could never" - or so I thought... Organizing events is a role I'm well-versed in and comfortable with, something I gladly look forward to - each event has its nuances, but over time, I've developed a rhythm and expertise that makes the process familiar. However, recently I was presented with a unique opportunity: organizing the company team-building event. This uncharted territory for me seemed daunting at first. However, through it all - I gained new perspectives and insights about my team. 💫 New challenges may come with discomfort and uncertainty, but they also bring growth, learning, and a sense of accomplishment that is unparalleled. 🥂 So, I raise a glass (of coffee unfortunately) to many new "firsts," that keep us evolving and discovering the vast potential within us. 🏡 EOS Matrix Macedonia Katerina Bosevska PhD.

Why should we invest in events? And more importantly, how? Because it’s not just about filling a room with people, it’s about creating memorable moments that linger long after the event is over. Last week I accompanied my husband Maximilian Oboth to a client event where Wohnquadrat Berlin GmbH hosts an annual summer party for their partners. In today's fast-paced world, such gestures are rare yet incredibly important! They show immense appreciation and bring people together. Despite being from a different industry, I had fascinating conversations that still resonate with me. Isn’t that how it should be? Let’s create experiences that last. Hosting events of this magnitude has taught me invaluable lessons, particularly regarding the importance of selecting names that fulfill two crucial criteria: - Clarity in Target Audience: Names should clearly indicate who the event is intended for. - Memorability: Names should be memorable for both the audience and associated brands. Last year, our event was known as the "New York Latin Experience." However, during our promotional efforts, we noticed a lack of resonance with the audience. Consequently, we made the bold decision to rebrand it as the "Latino Business Summit." This wasn't a decision taken lightly; we feared that people might perceive it as a different event altogether, disconnecting it from the positive experiences of the previous year. To our relief, the outcome was quite the opposite! The new name not only clearly identifies the target audience but also offers us the opportunity to expand the event across the United States, aligning perfectly with our primary goal for the upcoming years. Bit of an obvious rant 😤 but... visible diversity at events really matters for your industry. Events are the single most visible reflection of what your industry looks like. And if the place the people in your industry meet at - i.e. your event - doesn't include typically under-represented groups, what message is that sending out? Imagine you are just starting your career and you don't see or meet professionals who look, sound or love like you do. How do you feel? Event organisers may feel that it's really hard to always get their line-ups to be representative, or that "there aren't enough" speakers out there... Well, tough. It's your responsibility. And there are. Look harder. Ask around... If you're only finding speakers from other non-diverse events, then how will we ever break the cycle 🤦🏻
