It’s a partnership that definitely takes two to tango. Empaths like us understand, but still some senior journalists should be empathetic to PRs. I recently heard a young journalist at a newswire is turning into a snob, ticking her fingers to have PR’s help her with a plate of food. These same pricks turn super sweet to CEOs and companies for perks like junkets and gifts. They are compromised journalists in my book of definitions. That’s not what consultants are for. They are a bridge between journalists and CEOs. They deserve that much respect. You have work, and so do they. Pick yourself up and get that plate of food! I blame the editors and seniors in her team for rearing a snoot. CEOs don’t have time, journalists don’t have patience. PRs are the AIs you need for beautiful coverage. I’ve been a PR, brand manager and journalist. So I know what it takes to be on each side of the table. And hands down, a PR works more than a journalist. I have no shame in saying that. PRs are excellent reminders, Excel ninjas, PPT maestros and even therapists! I don’t care if these so called certificators of journalism don’t accept me as part of their clan. There was a lack in coverage that they hired me. Shouting out to all my PR friends - keep the bandwagon going, and let nobody dim your light. You are awesome! Some of you are better reporters and without the byline. I know so many pricks in the industry who get articles written by PRs and publish it as theirs. I so wish to name and shame them. They now anchor shows for a nascent business channel of a big news corporation in India. A comms shared the painful ordeal of this deceit. These folks are sleazes who make “overnight reporters”. Disgrace to the industry. And journalists, I know deep down all of you want to be a comms person for the pay, and think that you can have some chill. So please be kind, because one day you will be on other side of the table and a snooty PR will do to you what you once did to an innocent PR. Some PRs are ex-journalists, and they know the shift because of haughty reporters. Don’t be entitled. You can quickly fall off your cloud castle. #PRDay

For Media Business III (INM310SBB), Moxie Garrett "Un-Closeted: North Face’s Inclusive Marketing" https://lnkd.in/eGPYg_5f Chalked full of wit and decked in full-spectrum attire Pattie Gonia, stands poised in the forest. It is how the North Face has chosen to step into pride month; or as they put it “come out” in style. An unexpected move by the corporation, taking what seems like clashing concepts; the dynamic aesthetic of drag against serene landscapes, makes for a perfect example of inclusive marketing. It provides consumers with food for thought and turning stereotypes on their head. In recent years, people have called out corporations for seeing pride month as a cash grab. Virtue signalling by selling limited edition goods without concrete activism or infrastructural changes within their own organizations to facilitate greater inclusivity. However, The North Face’s choice to use Pattie Gonia as their ambassador allowed for an authentic campaign. Pattie Gonia is a drag queen, known for both their LGBTQ+ and environmental activism.  From being featured in Time as a “Next Generational Leader”, to cofounding an initiative to make the outdoors more inclusive, her placement feels logical. It might have been a surprising pitch, considering her name spawns from that of their competitor. For the audience however, it adds an additional contextual layer. The North Face’s slogan is “never stop exploring”, referring to its outdoor pioneering spirit. The LGBTQ+ are disproportionately affected by environmental hazards. What could be more authentic to their brand image during pride, than to give a platform to a community leader who seeks to conserve the environment the brand positions themselves in? Another reason, this campaign works is because it feels like an extension of their previous efforts. The North Face sponsors athletes from various demographics, demonstrating the brand’s accessibility to all. They have offered discounts to customers who take their course on racial inclusion, taking the concept of customer education beyond the conventional notions of product know-how, engagement and general retention. Through these messages they provided a space to host such campaigns. Lastly, the campaign is a successful because of how committed the brand is in standing behind the community. Many corporations lack backbones, preferring to pull the “everyman” archetype and remain silent. Instead, the North Face, have further rooted for the community by doubling-down against hate comments and extending her contract. Only by providing agency to the queer community can the campaign be confirmed as truly representative of inclusive marketing. However, it feels like a promising start as it caused me to examine what preconceived notions I had regarding outdoor adventuring. In the meantime/more immediately it inspires me to wear more colourful garb in nature and study-up on intersectional environmentalism.

Championing Authenticity As a lineman deeply entrenched in the world of social media, I've had the privilege of connecting with a wide audience of fellow tradespeople on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and TikTok. It's been an incredible journey, filled with opportunities to share insights, learn from others, and showcase the products and services that I'm truly passionate about. In recent times, some of you may have noticed that I've been endorsing a few products here and there. And I want to take a moment to share the driving force behind these endorsements. First and foremost, every product I've promoted is something I genuinely believe in. As someone who loves solving problems and seeing innovative ideas succeed, I've made it a point to only endorse products that align with my values and resonate with me on a personal level. These endorsements have been organic expressions of my enthusiasm for quality solutions that make a difference in our industry. Now, you might be wondering why I haven't taken a more focused approach to product endorsements or pursued paid opportunities. The truth is, while I'm open to exploring such opportunities in the future, my primary motivation has always been authenticity. I want my endorsements to be genuine reflections of my passion and conviction, not just a means to make a quick buck. That being said, I'm certainly open to collaborating with companies and brands that share my values and offer products or services that I believe in wholeheartedly. If there's a product out there that you think aligns with my ethos and deserves recognition, I'd love to hear about it and explore the potential . Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to all of you who have supported me on this journey. Whether it's through likes, comments, or messages, I make it a priority to engage with each and every one of you. 🤔 *opens floor for discussion* Our POV: That which is labeled “culturally relevant” isn’t necessarily culture. Culture comes encrypted by nature. It’s an inside-joke meant to preserve a way of life while leaving a record of its passing (ie: We are out here). Great music, eye-catching style, and food you swear you need to learn the recipe for are ways we preserve culture across time. These are experiences that can be enjoyed from outside but not reproduced (ie: IYKYK and you had to be there). So when you copy culture from the outside culturally relevant becomes only culturally adjacent. This is where our work begins as creatives. What is your POV? Ever experienced one of those 'oops' moments that turned into an unexpected lesson? That's precisely what happened at a recent white elephant gift exchange, offering a unique insight into creativity and adaptability. A friend brought their 4-year-old daughter to the event. When she eagerly asked, "Where is mine?" while eyeing the pile of gifts, we realized none were suitable for a child. 🎁👀 In a moment of quick thinking, I found a banana and a La Croix in the kitchen. I wrapped them up as a makeshift gift. 🍌💧 Her reaction upon opening it was priceless - the room filled with laughter and cheer. Her joy over something so simple was a lesson in itself. She enjoyed her modest gift with the delight of a Parisian in a café, reminding everyone of the beauty in simplicity. More importantly, she felt included and valued in that moment. This experience made me reflect on our approaches in professional settings. Often, we aim for complex solutions or grand gestures, overlooking the power of simplicity and the impact of small, thoughtful actions. Just like the joy of the child over a simple banana, sometimes it's the uncomplicated ideas that have the most significant effect. This experience remineded me of the importance of adaptability and quick thinking. Being able to improvise and find solutions in unexpected situations is a crucial skill in any professional environment.
