DEKRA nominated for the German Sustainability Award 2023! The expert jury of the GSA has selected DEKRA as a pioneer of change in the area of R&D and testing services. This year, the German Sustainability Award for Companies is awarded jointly with the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, the DIHK and the WWF to particularly exemplary companies. The basis for the initial assessment was the published sustainability information (#sustainabilitymagazine) and the professional expertise of the jurors. DEKRA is distinguished by the fact that the company not only pursues ambitious goals internally in all three sustainability dimensions, but also supports and empowers customers on a large scale with a wide range of competent services in their sustainable transformation. For example, as part of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), we are developing a roadmap internally at DEKRA for reducing our own emissions in line with the Paris 1.5 degree climate agreement and also offer corresponding services for our customers. Gulfstream Aerospace has announced the appointment of Smitha Hariharan as vice president and chief sustainability officer (CSO), marking a significant step in the company's commitment to sustainability. In this newly-created role, Hariharan will spearhead Gulfstream's sustainable transformation and ensure its business strategies align with sustainability principles. Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream, welcomed Hariharan, stating, “Sustainability continues to be a major focus for our company and the business aviation industry. Gulfstream is committed to supporting General Dynamics’ goal of reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon dioxide emissions by 40% by 2034, relative to 2019.” Hariharan’s expertise is expected to accelerate Gulfstream's sustainability initiatives. Burns added, “We look forward to the insights and knowledge she will bring as we continue to lead the industry in our efforts. Gulfstream is innovating for a sustainable future. We are committed to doing our part in advancing the industry forward to achieve our shared sustainability goals.” Gulfstream’s next-generation aircraft offer up to 33% fuel-efficiency gains over predecessor models. Since 2014, the company has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 18% while expanding facilities by 30%. In November 2023, Gulfstream completed the world’s first trans-Atlantic flight on 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in both engines. Earlier this year, Gulfstream joined the International Aerospace Environmental Group ® (IAEG) supplier assessment initiative. This program aims to manage environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risk and compliance, driving sustainability performance improvement across its supply chain. All Gulfstream suppliers will share their sustainability strategies to identify ESG risks and opportunities for overall sustainability performance enhancement. Hariharan joins Gulfstream from Halliburton, where she served as the global head of sustainability for Halliburton Energy Services.
