Jon Kabat Zinn came across my radar when he published, “Wherever You Go, There You Are.” Hard to believe, the 30th Anniversary edition just came out! Where does the time go?! Well, not to be too cheeky, I’ve come to believe and know from studying his works, time goes where we let our thoughts take us. Most of it is unconscious. For good reason, we have 40,000 (or so) thoughts a day. The ones that lead us to act, where we make conscious decisions interest me the most. Those reflect our core values, places where we feel love, and where we experience fear. The more awake we become to how love move us, over fear, the more we create #inclusion, #connection, #collaboration, #togetherness, #openness, #hope, … add your experience in the comments. While I have picked up and followed the writings of other teachers, equally compelling, I return time and time again to JKZ because he reminds me - us - how to be mindful in such an easy way. Well, I wouldn’t say the experience is always easy, but the method is. And his work always points out that #mindfulness can be practiced anywhere, anytime. You don’t need to sit on a cushion to be mindful. You can do it right here, right now by just becoming present to this moment. Bring your full awareness to and as he would say, “let yourself fall awake.” If you are not familiar with JKZ’s work and contributions, here’s an exceptional meditation available on Insight Timer, which I have been using for 7 years now and highly recommend. There is also the JKZ app which is an excellent repository of his work.
