What's your typical strategy for an icebreaker to engage your employees? Sometimes our icebreakers provide some insight on getting to know one another, and sometimes they look like this ⤵ #Tiktok did it best and here we are playing along, except instead of a partner we chose our President of Edgewood Healthcare. "Draw our President and give his best quote." 😂 I'd say these are some great representations. Taking this approach, got everyone talking, laughing, and working together in no time!

I make no bones about it, I am *NOT* a fan of TickTok. Not only for the often mindless posts and rants (of all types) people post on there, but the reputational damage it can cause to individuals and businesses alike. I've seen it on here more than any other social media outlet, but it is hardly the 'only' such platform. One of the hottest topics I've been dealing with over the past few years is #reputationmanagement which is not simply about what your people post, video, comment, etc. online (whether on or off-the-clock), but things OTHERS might capture them doing that then gets posted online as well. For all the new "social media agreements" out there in the workplace, advocated by #hrmanagers #hrdirectors and #riskmanagers alike, those don't always address questionable, controversial or even criminal activities employees are caught in that find their way onto social media. "But, Jeff, 'MY' people know better." Suuuuuuuuure they do, or sure you THINK they do. How about we both make SURE they know better? How? By having the tough conversations that today 'need' to be had in the workplace. I have presentations both in-person as well as now via #onlinecourses to do just that regarding potentially 'GRAVE' situations. Point being, I know someone who can help. #defensebydesign

Just when you thought social media couldn’t possibly give employers any more headaches, we have a new phenomenon for you: QuitTok. This is when a disgruntled employee covertly films a disciplinary meeting or performance review conducted by video call and posts it online. Hoping to cause as much reputational damage as possible, some have hit the mark and gone viral. As well as the direct reputational damage, these acts can cause other problems like a breach of confidentiality, and the sapping of morale. So, how can you lower the chances of this happening to you? Complaining about work isn't anything new but the leverage and reach has never been as powerful as it is today. The #worktok trend is a fascinating way in which the work landscape is changing and how #GenZ is leading that change. By chance, 5 people this week have mentioned to me about posting videos of #PerformanceReviews on social media. I wrote a bit more about it: https://lnkd.in/dCDJhtzE #trending #actYourWage #RageApplying #culture #workplaceculture #employeeEngagement

Resource abundance is a double-edged sword (Link 1, Link 2). If managed poorly, resource abundance will eventually turn into intellectual impoverishment. Link 1: https://lnkd.in/gxtthKXN "ByteDance slashes 1,000 jobs from workplace collaboration unit Feishu" Link 2: https://lnkd.in/gMzb6ZW7 "However, the ROI (Return on Investment) obtained by dividing the ARR of 200 million USD by the total number of Lark employees is not ideal. Xie Xin stated that TikTok within the group has the highest income, but different types of businesses need to be considered based on their characteristics. Lark requires long-term, strong, and continuous investment. Although the ROI is not high, it also shows the group’s different levels of investment and patience for this matter."

$150 billion, culture clashes and leadership exits. Here's 5 mistakes to avoid: M&A is sexy. Everyone loves to hear about big deals, billions of dollars and celebrity founders. But what you don't hear about are: → cultural integration issues → immature leadership structures → and absent communication systems That's definitely not as sexy... But it's vitally important to understand. Today, Instagram is worth $47 billion. Whatsapp is worth $100 + billion Sounds good right? BUT... Both companies were acquired by Facebook (Meta), experienced massive cultural issues, and their founders left in uproar. Whilst Meta could absorb these issues. Most companies can't. Here's 5 mistakes to avoid: 🔴 Ignoring Cultural Fit Don't underestimate the importance of cultural alignment. ↳ Conduct a thorough assessment of both companies' values, norms, and behaviours to identify potential clashes early on. 🔴 Linear Due Diligence Look beyond the financials. ↳ Evaluate the target company's leadership, talent, and organizational structure to ensure they can integrate seamlessly. 🔴 Failing to Communicate Transparency is key. ↳ Develop a clear communication plan to keep employees, customers, and stakeholders informed throughout the M&A process to minimise uncertainty and anxiety. 🔴 Underestimating Integration Complexity M&A is not just a financial transaction. ↳ It requires a well-planned, well-executed integration strategy that addresses everything from systems and processes to PEOPLE and CULTURE. 🔴 Rushing the Process M&A is a marathon, not a sprint. ↳ Take the time to properly plan, execute, and integrate to maximise the chances of success and minimise the risk of costly mistakes. M&A can be a powerful growth strategy, but it's not without its challenges. With more 'Buy and Build' strategies likely in 2024 avoiding these common mistakes are crucial. --- 📌 PS - What's the worst M&A deal you've seen? If this resonates, repost to share with others ♻️ and follow Garvey Seaton💥 for more in future. #privateequity #generalpartners #buyandbuild #portfoliocompanies #culture
