💃 The 3rd DiGiSect Expert Workshop on Design and Operation of Digitalized Sector-Coupled Energy Systems, is held 16-17 May in Stockholm this year, coincidentally on the same date as Taylor Swift's concert 💡 Lessons learned and information are exchanged among experts on how to efficiently couple sectors towards 4D energy system! (decarbonization, decentralization, democratization and digitalization). 📝 E-mobility use case exemplifies sector coupling, aka V2X. Heat networks, energy storage, smart buildings also have promising potential for providing flexibility for sector-coupled energy systems. There is still much to do in terms of research to enhance harmonization and interoperability. Experts, researchers, industries, and students are working together to turn this innovation into reality. Dream big, and start now even small steps can make a change. 👩🏫 Education is a fundamental element in bridging the skill gaps to support this development. Standardization is a key enabler that we hope will facilitate seamless sector coupling and could potentially be interconnected with the data space. Also, proactive policy and regulatory framework could also accelerate and enhance awareness and provide freedom of choice for citizens. And many more. 🥬 Next year, the 4th workshop will be in Oldenburg for sure but we cannot promise the concert of Taylor Swift :) We look forward to welcoming you all. 🚀 Currently on an inspiring learning expedition to Atlanta, Georgia, organized by Siemens Energy! Our mission: to explore strategies for handling rapid growth in the grid technology business. So far, we’ve visited several remarkable companies, including Amazon, Chick-fil-A, and Microsoft, as well as startup-related associations. The key takeaway from these visits is clear: their engaged culture, commitment, and pride of the people working there are fundamental to their success and enable them to grow fast as well as sustainable. I am proud to say that this same spirit thrives me and many other people at Siemens Energy. However, it’s something we can and should improve even further. We have an amazing purpose as a company, and we should speak more often about it. Our group is highly engaged and motivated, and we are already planning to follow up on the key takeaways, breaking down actions to implement these improvements. Had some lively chats at the Energy Tech Nexus event in Houston. Biggest takeaway from this morning’s panel discussions: the energy transition cannot be delivered without utilization of talent from every corner of the planet, ie, diversity. While technological diversification will be required, financers and incumbents must also prepare to reposition thinking on how they engage with emerging innovation. Perhaps new financing instruments will disrupt traditional ones that don’t necessarily deliver the capital gains celebrated by today’s systems. But to scale efficiently, incumbents need to allow innovators high-trust and high-agency over their technologies and pilot demonstrations, where applicable. Innovators may better understand the nuances of how their technology impacts a local footprint. Where innovators excel in challenging the status-quo, incumbents prefer to defend their market share. But while this is great for profits, it doesn’t translate into a rapid transition. The longer we postpone the energy transition, the more impacted will our most vulnerable and marginalized communities be. We’ll also need to hold those who make declarative statements about decarbonization accountable to their claims. But significant opportunities still lay ahead between the collaboration of innovators and incumbents. Just a few thoughts… #ClimateWeekHTX

How are innovations born? I've had the privilege of witnessing how my colleagues once again have built a little bit better world and created the Distributed Energy Storage (DES) solution. DES uses Elisa's mobile network backup power units' energy for participating in the energy market and optimizing energy management while conforming to backup regulations.  It's Europe's largest distributed virtual power plant, a pretty big deal, I would say!   So, I started to wonder what made us successful and three things came to my mind:   1. A clear, inspiring vision that all team members can commit to. Seamless support from leadership and the surrounding organisation.   2. Freedom to experiment and fail. This team thinks and speaks startup-like and moves forward quickly by experimenting every week. The opportunity to experiment in a real production environment from the outset made it matter and real.   3. They have put time and effort into creating a good team spirit to engage everyone for shared goals.
