Embedded Insights with Anurag Doshi: Advanced Troubleshooting Techniques in Embedded Systems . . . . . We delve deep into Advanced Troubleshooting Techniques crucial for any embedded systems engineer's toolkit. During a recent project, I was tasked with ensuring our device's full functionality could be verified through automation. While updating documentation for the latest software release, I uncovered a significant bug—before it even reached our testing team. If not addressed promptly, this issue threatened to delay our delivery to the client by three days. Methodical Approach to Troubleshooting: Reproduction of the Bug: My first step was consistently reproducing the bug to understand its nature and triggers. Utilizing Debugging Tools: To delve into the issue, I employed a variety of debugging tools. These included: Oscilloscope: to successfully pinpoint the signal produced by the devices. Logic Analyzer: Used to digitally better understand the time splices of the signal. Simulator: It was a client provided simulator, that helped in testing the functionality of code at a faster rate. Swift Resolution and Enhancement: Through meticulous debugging, I isolated the fault and implemented a fix, enhancing the software to meet stringent client standards and ultimately reducing delivery time significantly. Lessons Learned: This experience reinforced the importance of a systematic approach to problem-solving in embedded systems. It highlighted how advanced troubleshooting and the right tools can preempt significant delays and improve the overall quality of a project.
