On July 24, 2024, Clean Energy Fuels Corporation broke ground on a new $85 million renewable natural gas production (RNG) facility at South Fork Dairy in Dimmitt, Texas. The facility will be the 12th facility of such stature either operating or under development by Clean Fuels in the United States. At an anticipated capacity of 2.6 MGY of RNG, the South Fork facility will be one of the biggest producers of the negative-carbon natural gas in the United States. "Accelerate International Cooperation on Floating Wind to Prevent Development of Silos" ...... This came across my feed and it struck me as the definition of unintentional irony. "Floating Wind" is one of the Silos ..... some would say the one of the two main offshore renewable energy silos, with fixed wind being the other. Their "silo-brothers and sisters" being wave energy, tidal and ocean current energy, Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC), floating solar, and if your being generous, offshore geothermal. For nearly a decade now Excipio Energy has fought this mentality, but not met with great success. For the 40 years prior to 2010 these industries did not exist outside of R&D and fought over investment. This developed an us vs them mindset that is now mirrored by both Government agencies, NGO's, large energy companies, most conferences, and even publications! (the article is from "offshorewind.biz") Oddly one of the few places you can find all of them at one conference is at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) - (NOTE: ABSTRACTS FOR 2025 OTC PAPERS ARE DUE BY Sep 10th https://lnkd.in/gBzNwdyN) Any floating system should carry as many of the Silo-family as physically possible, and suitable for the location. Building floating steel islands is NOT cheap, and to not leverage the CAPEX expenditure is both a waste of money and carbon footprint. Renewable energy is being pushed by the US authorities. Oceantic Network, being the dynamic industry association for renewable energy in the USA, organized their annual forum (IPF) in New Orleans last week. Here, the industry, experts and authorities gathered to talk about opportunities and challenges.   Look for example at New York State, which is strengthening and steering its renewable energy targets by multiple studies, covering supply chain, harbor capacity, environmental impact and cost projections. On behalf of NYSERDA (New York State Energy & Development Authority), Ventolines is performing a study for deep water cost reduction 📉   In New Orleans, Remco Boersma, director of Contracting and Construction at Ventolines, was one of the panelists in a discussion led and moderated by Peter Lion from NYSERDA. Remco talked about the key topics of the study by Ventolines. The commencement of the Mitchelstown Central Grid Injection (CGI) facility marks a pivotal moment in Ireland’s energy decarbonisation journey. My team are working closely with biomethane producers that wish to connect directly to the gas network, but this CGI will play a key role in supporting producers where a direct connection is not feasible. I would like to thank all the biomethane producers that responded to our call for expressions of interest to use the Mitchelstown facility. This data shows that there’s a really strong demand from producers for a facility of this nature. It’s a great pleasure to witness the tangible progress we are making towards a more sustainable gas network. This facility is not just an investment in renewable energy, but in Ireland's energy security and resilience.
