What an incredible day at GCSE Science in Action in the Midlands! 🔎From debunking TikTok science myths with Jamie Gallagher to exploring cryogenics with Dr. Alex Baker, the event was packed with jaw-dropping moments and hands-on learning. 🧊 🌍 Dr. Caroline Shenton-Taylor took us on daring scientific adventures, and Hana Ayoob showed how art can reveal the secrets of science. ✏️ To top it off, Tom Warrender (aka the human guinea pig 🩺) wowed us with live medical demos, inspiring the next generation of health professionals. Huge thanks to the amazing speakers, curious students, and passionate educators who made it unforgettable! 👏 #GCSEScienceInAction

Reflecting on a Milestone in Exposome Research!!! In 2017, I and Caroline H Johnson at Yale School of Public Health organized and hosted one of the first formal exposome-focused symposia in the U.S., marking a pivotal moment in environmental health sciences. The Yale Symposium, titled "Lifetime Exposures and Human Health: The Exposome," brought together leading scientists to explore how all environmental exposures throughout life—our "exposome"—shape human health. The symposium showcased advancements in metabolomics, bioinformatics, and big data, highlighting the exposome’s transformative potential for understanding health disparities and environmental impacts on disease. It was inspiring to see experts from various fields come together, united by a commitment to comprehensive health models that consider both genetic and environmental factors. Since 2017, the field has rapidly evolved, with institutions and public health organizations increasingly integrating exposomic science into research and policy. The symposium wasn’t just a gathering—it was a launching point for interdisciplinary collaboration, setting the foundation for today’s exposomic research. Excited to see how far we’ve come and looking forward to the future innovations in this critical field! Also excited to work with our colleagues at USC, UNC, Mt Sinai and Stanford to lead the translation of the exposome. #Exposome #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalHealth #Yale #NIA #NIEHS #YSPH

At a good and inspiring Day 1 at the AESIS conference on Societal Impact of Scientific Research in Dublin, three points resonated particularly well with me: 1) "Start by creating relationships to create impact", 2) "Ask not if it's perfect, but ask if it's better", and 3) "Let's talk about what 'indicates impact' rather than 'impact indicators' ". I made new friends and reconnected with old friends - so looking very much forward to the next couple of days :-) #IOS24, AESIS Network, #impact, #research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH, University College Dublin, Anika Suzanne Duut van Goor

Conversations at the Conference for Advancing Participatory Sciences (CAPS) open doors and change the field, and there is still time to bring your ideas to this event. Presentations at CAPS elevate ideas and insights that highlight what has been done or could be done to make participatory science projects successful and the field impactful. We welcome submissions sharing research outcomes, stories of lessons learned, or emerging work on a variety of themes including: participatory science for policy and decision making; education and learning; scientific contributions to knowledge and discovery; and many more. >>Find a full list of themes, as well as submission guidelines here: https://lnkd.in/gYzHqVMt The call for individual presentations for CAPS 2025 in Portland, Oregon is open through January 15, 2025. Curious what gets presented at CAPS? The preliminary program for a list of symposia and workshops is now available. https://lnkd.in/gb7D6fy9 #CitizenScience #ParticipatoryScience #CommunityScience #ResearchConference #volunteermonitoring
