EduSpots: A Collaborative Ecosystem for Community-Led Transformation! At EduSpots, these are the key stakeholders driving impact at the community level in a 'Spot: 💡 The Catalysts – A dynamic mix of local teachers, students, and Changemakers symbolized by a glowing light bulb. They are the heart of our model, where ideas are nurtured and led by the community itself. While inspiration comes from many sources, the initial spark to create a Spot always begins within the community. 🌳 Community Committees – Each Spot is encouraged to have a diverse committee, including PTA representatives, traditional leaders, headteachers, students, and more. These committees ensure inclusive decision-making and support the Spot's development. Like any engine, a Spot thrives on the contributions of many and impacts the community in meaningful ways. Here’s how: 🧨 Sparks – Young learners engaged in EduKidz, DigiLit, Ignite Equity, EcoSTEM, and other community-led clubs. These future Catalysts bring fresh energy and ideas. 🔥 Wider Spot Users– Community members of all ages who benefit from mentorship, study spaces, learning resources, and books, while participating in broader Spot activities. 🌠 Community Supporters – Parents and other members who, even if not direct users, contribute through their support, with some activities extending into homes and beyond. 💦 Staff & Peer Mentors – Mostly drawn from the Catalyst network, they provide technical guidance, encouragement, and resources to help local Catalysts bring their educational visions to life. Currently, EduSpots staff play a role in sparking creativity through monthly challenges that model play-based, team-oriented, and practical learning. However, we are shifting toward greater local leadership—some monthly challenges are already designed by Catalysts, and all offer flexibility for adaptation to the local context, fostering greater community-driven educational innovation. The dotted line in our model reflects our belief in co-creation. Beyond a few core requirements, we are collaborators—not supervisors—working together to ignite education-led transformation. #educaton #community #ourcollectivefuture

At JOMO, we believe in putting joy (and often humour) at the centre of things. During a recent school visit on the west coast, I was breezing out of a listening session with a group of high schoolers when a 16-year-old boy ran up to me and urgently asked, “For a kid like me who wants [to be digitally well], what do I need to know?" I paused and looked deep into his eyes. Here was a young man who, in his own words, had already made significant changes to his digital habits encouraged by the learning and new practices his parents had recently adopted. I told him, “You need to understand the design of the technology tools you use and the environments you inhabit daily, to understand where you are right now and where you want to go, to learn what supports your goals and makes you well, and the tactical changes needed to make your well-being and success a reality.” I should have also said, "The community to get you there." The three pillars of the JOMO(campus) high school program are (1) Staff, (2) Student, and (3) Family Education. We know that our layered approach across campuses works - with multiple touchpoints for the community - in classrooms and out. That's how culture is built. Here's a favourite funny classroom video from our JOMO(campus) resource kit, which is coming soon to our brand new US and Canadian schools coast to coast. Creating a #phonefree #school environment is a powerful first step in fostering a culture of #digitalwellness. But it's only the beginning. By embracing a comprehensive approach that includes understanding technology’s design, focusing on joy, and fostering community support, we can help our students develop the skills and habits they need for lifelong digital well-being.

It shares a personal journey of finding a voice and highlights the transformative power of being truly listened to. It also shares some of the things BPS is doing to amplify student voices, showcasing inspiring initiatives and programs within Boston Public Schools (BPS) and community partnerships that are making a real difference including: Inquiry-Based Learning: Encouraging student-centered activities, exploration, and collaboration as implemented by Jermaine Tulloch Student Leadership and Decision-Making: Programs like the Boston Student Advisory Council (BSAC) empower students to actively participate in shaping their education - check out the profound words of Tewahedo Haimanot Community Partnerships: Organizations like WriteBoston and their Teens in Print program provide platforms for marginalized voices to be heard. I recently had the opportunity to share some thoughts on purpose-driven organizations for Authority Magazine. The interview is a little long, but if you want the cliff notes, here's my “5 Things You Need To Create a Successful Purpose Driven Business Model”: 1 . Commit to Values: Life will test your values, and it will be tempting to ditch them for the sake of survival. My best advice is that’s exactly when you need to lean into them the hardest. If you fail, you’ll still be proud of yourself. If you succeed, you’ll create transformational systemic change. 2 . Be Authentic: Be real with your customers. Be transparent with your staff. Communicate with them often and candidly. Engage with them as if they are rooting for you. Own up to your mistakes, and share the insights you've learned from them with others. 3 . Seek Collaboration: Too often folks see others in their industry as competition. And that may be true in many cases. However, what if we looked for organizations with complementary strengths? Who may already be working with a community or a client whom we can partner with to amplify the shared impact we want to have on them? What if we put the greater good first instead of just our own organization's growth for growth’s sake? 4 . Co-Design: You don’t have to have all the answers yourself. Design products and services alongside your clients and partners. People support that which they create. Have a way for folks to give meaningful input in your product or service design. If you have multiple partners, ensure everyone has an equal voice. When you let go of some control, the outcome can be more beautiful than you imagined and the impact stronger. 5 . Lead with Love: Above all, lead with love. Love is the opposite of fear. Too often, our society's systems are designed from a place of fear. Only when we design from a place of love for humanity, for animals, for the planet, whatever our cause may be, can we design for a more just and equitable world.
💡 Inspired by Purpose! 💡 EDMO co-founder Eduardo Caballero was featured in Authority Magazine, sharing his insights on building a successful purpose-driven organization. In the interview, Eduardo discusses: 💭 The "why" behind EDMO's mission to provide equitable access to high-quality education. 🌟 How EDMO has adapted and innovated to meet the evolving needs of communities. 🤝 The importance of building partnerships and fostering a culture of collaboration. Check out the full interview for an inspiring look at how EDMO partners with school districts and other organizations to make a difference in the lives of kids, families, and communities. #EDMO #STEAMeducation #STEM #Afterschool #SocialEmotionalLearning

Dear parents & educators, Imagine a world where every child’s learning journey doesn’t stop at the school gates but continues to inspire and empower during the 4,940 hours they spend outside the classroom. That’s the future we’re building—one hour, one child, and one family at a time. Here’s how we’re making it happen: We’re tackling three of the world’s biggest challenges—education, health, and inequality—by transforming how kids and their families learn together. ⏳ 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 85% Kids spend only 15% of their annual learning time in school. The remaining 85%—those 4,940 hours—offers an untapped opportunity to shape their futures. We’re making those hours impactful, ensuring holistic growth. 🚀 𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 By engaging both students and families, our innovative learning model creates ripple effects that extend far beyond the individual. Together, we’re building stronger families, communities, and futures. 💡 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 The impact starts small—with one child—but it grows to touch families, communities, and eventually the world. The journey has just begun, and we’re just getting started! Together, we can create a world where every learning moment matters.
