Navigating Choices between AP or Dual Enrollment Highlights ▪AP courses are standardized nationally, and they have a set curriculum as designated by the College Board. ▪DE courses vary depending on where you live and how the DE course is being conducted. ▪Some selective colleges and universities do not grant credit for AP or DE courses but recognize them as preparation for college. ▪ AP exams have a standard cost for taking the exam. DE course costs vary by state. ▪Admissions officers will consider what a student chooses to take with what choices are available to them. We should stop giving so much importance to 10th board exams. There is no correlation of securing excellent grades in 10th board exams and doing well in life. I say this based on my own personal experience and also interacting with more than 100 teachers and principals on this topic. In fact, I have also noticed that the student toppers in board exams often lose their way in life subsequently. Why does this happen? (1) In majority of the schools, "memorization" is still promoted. Students who can remember well are often the ones scoring well in exams. Memorization has got its own merits, however our exam system should have a more rounded evaluation. Right-brained students who excel in creativity and intuition do not get a chance to express their academic abilities through our examinations. (2) We make a very big deal out of "board exam marks". Students who secure excellent grades, often think that the major academic hurdle of their life is over. This makes them very complacent and without any immediate goal which would provide them with a sense of achievement, they often lose their way in life. (3) Doing well in life requires students to develop a passion for something. This requires a balance of freedom and academic rigor. Creating pressure about the board exams, makes the student believe that this is the most important thing in life, which it is really not. This ultimately restricts their freedom and makes them work towards a goal which is set by someone else.

Exam Nation is a new book by Sammy Wright that looks at the role of examinations in schools inter alia. However, according to Michael Gove who has reviewed it in the Times, rather than concluding they should be scrapped, it defends them. The argument is similar to that put forward by Churchill, to paraphrase: "Exams are the worst form of assessment – except for all the others that have been tried" Its not that they tick all the boxes, but the alternatives are equally problematic. Its good to see something that promotes the value of examinations, rather than being critical but offering little by way of an alternative. https://lnkd.in/eQbQ55vZ

Interesting report that came from the Department for Education today. Statistically one grade improvement in GCSE PE, can lead to in increase of around 12k more in lifetime earnings (excluding two subjects). Will be interested to read further about what makes physical education stand out and anyone else’s thoughts on the below:

Third term is over! How did you judge that your child performed well in the just concluded term? You possibly would have concluded that your child did well after she was presented an award for attaining the top position not minding the cumulative grades? What a beautiful approach there but it is not so encompassing. The modality for the receipt of award should be checked. Concentration should be on Improved grades or the percentage acquired by the child. The award is okay but that shouldn't be the end of the course. Has it ever occurred to you that in a class of 15 you could have students who had less A than B in comparison to what they acquired the previous term, in other cases awards given may be tied to preferential treatment rather than real performance. Amplify the process more than the award! Sometimes ago one of our high school students shared with us how they miscalculated his total marks in his terminal exam which dropped his grade and position to second. He got to figure the error in calculation when the result of the awardee and his was compared in terms of total marks and percentage. Well the result has been given to the other student and cannot be withdrawn, everyone just has to move on. This simply showed the imperfection in men. Are general awards fine? Yes they are. When given by schools should they be the most significant, No. Next time when you check the terminal result of your child, what you should look out for is improved grade, class average attained or the total percentage as the case may be- any improvement from the previous term? If yes, motivate them heartily and if reverse is don't deny them of motivation too, ask questions, then encourage them for more. Having done this, go ahead and book our tutors for them to help attain more or break more records in the forthcoming session. #grandtutorscohort #gtc #seebeyondclassroom #exampreparation #privatetutor P.S- You see the picture attached? Our education system follows a 'final exam winner is a winner' concept. For 10-11 months, students study for that one final exam which decides whether they are eligible to progress further in their education or which course they should take next. Consider a scenario where a student consistently performs well in monthly exams but struggles during the final exam due to unforeseen circumstances. Should this single exam define their academic abilities? Instead of relying solely on final exams, why not adopt an average model? By considering the average of marks from multiple exams throughout the year, we can encourage consistency and resilience in students. This approach would help students understand the importance of continuous effort and provide a fairer assessment of their abilities. This is my perspective, but I'm open to hearing different viewpoints. Please share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. #EducationReform #ConsistencyMatters #FairAssessment #indianeducationsystem #centralgovernment
