So I have a few things to say on different topics, and it feels odd to drip feed them on different posts, so here comes a general update blog post from me!
1) ACCA Corporate Sector Panel appointment: thanks so much to everyone for all the congrats/good wishes re. my post earlier in the week! I can't wait to get stuck into this one. It is, however, going to take some more intentional time management on my part to balance work, extra-curricular professional stuff, health, home, social and hobbies. The key to unlocking this, frankly, is going to be reducing the amount of time I spend scrolling on my phone. Anyone with any tips on that, hit me up;
2) London & South East Finance Awards: I'm looking forward to representing ACCA on the judging panels for two of these awards in September - good luck to all the nominees & I'm looking forward to interviewing those who are shortlisted, and to the ceremony in November!

3) GENCFO x ACCA South Coast Meetup II: after a really lovely inaugural event in July, everyone is agreed that we should do this again, and so I am pencilling in Wednesday 23 October to host the next local meetup event for GENCFO & ACCA members - save the date! I'm looking at you Val Elliott FCCA Christopher Argent Mike Rose Tony Good FCCA Goke Ajayi, FCCA CertDIF Vinay Handa FCCA Paresh Mistry Julia Stovold Lloyd Vandenberg Patricia Fox Deanie Chiu FCCA Oluwole Ayobami (ACCA) Gemma Kelman ACCA Clive Hurst 😉
4) Back health: yes, that's what I said - back health. Last week I was on annual leave, with nothing major planned, which was just as well, because I needed to not be chained to my desk for 40 hours on account of experiencing some fairly severe back trouble. No idea what caused it, but most people I spoke to the prior week heard about it, I can tell you. So, early last week, I ordered a standing desk, and thankfully ergodesks.co.uk were excellent, helped me spec it via online chat very late one evening, and shipped it pretty much instantly. A lot of help from Jason Titley got the thing built in good time for Monday. If you're of a certain age and have had back trouble, you'll have the t-shirt on this. If you're at an earlier life stage, however, work long hours at a desk (as most folk on LinkedIn do) and your back hasn't yet objected aggressively, please heed my warning - pay some attention to your back care. Don't let it get to the point where it kicks off at random like mine does - deeply unpleasant. Sort out some kind of standing desk arrangement (no matter where you work - home, office or hybrid), move regularly, and invest a little time in a core strength exercise routine. A great one I've learnt recently is to stand on one leg whilst you brush your teeth (do two things at once = life hack, obvs). Don't say you weren't warned ;-)
5) #PowerQuery, #PowerPivot and #dynamicarrays. No LI post is complete without mention of these lately. Get on them. Thank me later.
That's it for now - catch you soon!
