As organizations consider how best to ideate when embarking on the development of a novel technology, it may be useful to consider the ways in which empathetic thinking can foster innovation. Enjoy this fascinating study on the link between empathy and user-centric design published in the Creativity Research Journal and titled “Empathizing with the End User: Effect of Empathy and Emotional Intelligence on Ideation.” Enjoy: https://lnkd.in/gvEfYXEc

Have you ever felt tension between wanting to advance a new idea and your place in your organization’s hierarchy? It’s easy to feel that only those with positional power can unlock creativity to deliver value. 💡But anyone can innovate!💡 Last year I read The Ten Faces of Innovation by Tom Kelley, a partner at design consultancy IDEO. It really resonated. Tom outlined 10 personas that anyone can embrace to push innovation forward. I found three to be ESPECIALLY relevant to arts and culture teams: 🔎Anthropologists, who gather learnings and insights through observation. 🤝Collaborators, who bring people together to create new combinations. 🎢Experience architects, who innovate by designing compelling experiences. I explore these more on our blog and share some examples of innovative personas in our own Tessitura arts and culture community. Find out how Michelle Lockhart formerly from London’s Science Museum, Jessie Upton and Latoyah Forsyth from Melbourne Recital Centre, and Liam Darbon from Tate in London have advanced innovation at their organizations. (And huge thanks to my colleague John Jakovich, Tessitura’s Chief Innovation Officer, for being my thought partner as we explore the secrets to unlocking innovation in teams.) Please take a read>>

Design thinking is a process that fosters empathy, creativity and collaboration to tackle complex social problems with a human-centred approach. Adopting this mindset has created innovative solutions globally which we explored today when creating presentations. It is evident that design thinking is extremely valuable within businesses in research and development as well as the product design itself. #designthinking #innovation #teessideuniversity

Helping leaders innovate by combining design and technology to create impactful digital products. Head of PM-Tech Latin America @ Amazon
Adopting universal design isn’t just about sharing its core principles with your team. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. • Connect these principles to your processes. • Embed them in your product artifacts. • Turn them into mechanisms that can be tracked and measured. • Include them in the agenda of your design review meetings Make them explicit. Otherwise they are just good intentions. Designing for everyone is challenging. Today, between one call and another, I had the opportunity to join Prof. Sabine Junginger, PhD 's speech at GovTech Forum. The highlight that I take home: co-design is crucial in the context of purpose driven innovation. If you work on a project, you must remember that you don't work IN a project, otherwise - trapped in the single project - without connecting people, you will find yourself reinventing the weel every time. If instead you also dedicate the effort to connecting the objectives and bringing people around the table, taking off the hats they usually wear, designing together, than you can generate real value. This is way I'm so deeply in love with design. Whatever you want to call us( designers, strategist, innovators, cultori della materia, dreamers...)we have a super power: put people together in the room and, by the art of asking powerful questions, change the rules. Thank you Prof. Sabine Junginger, PhD for being so inspiring.

Ever wondered what powers great innovation? It starts with the right questions. A thought-provoking conversation reminded me: the questions we ask shape the solutions we create. In the design of products and services, asking “game-changing questions” is what leads to massive growth. What game-changing questions are you asking in your design journey? #Innovation #DesignThinking
