On Saturday 27th, many of EIRE Systems employees, families, and partners enjoyed a terrific (and hot!) afternoon at the Kirana Garden Resort, in Toyosu (Tokyo Bay area). We enjoyed grilling a smorgasbord of meat, seafood, and vegetables, accompanied by an endless supply of drinks, in the company of our friends and colleagues. Many thanks to Paul Timmons and Matthew Connolly for hosting the event.

Drawing together the latest research and project insight we are leading on the call for canteen culture in the UK to be reimagined in partnership with government, businesses, local authorities and communities. Kentucky gets more booze Visitors than Scotland, in spite of being a much smaller population than Scotland AND having less Distilleries. Ireland's Whiskey Tourism drive ALSO outperforms Scotland. It's tiny, in comparison with Scotch. Tequila Tourism in Mexico has Books, Websites, Trains. It also has properly-funded, Government involvement. Meanwhile, in Scotland, it's a hopeless, really embarrassing state of affairs. It's all about 'the brands', Scotland doesn't individually capitalise on being the World's best Whisky Country. Many think it already does but you have to think, Scotch is drink named after a Country. It should have unique Training, a Website, Books, Apps, a Network, all funded and benefitting Scotland, not people in Hong Kong. Scotland has NOTHING as well-funded as Kentucky. When it comes to funding Scotch Whisky Tourism, Scotland doesn't. Scotch is a heavily (some say, ridiculously) Taxed, UK cashcow. It's not one that benefits Scotland properly. If you look at the Scotch Whisky Association and Visitscotland's all-over-the shop-Tourism drive, it's laughably amateur and hopelessly under-funded. Nobody is in charge. As the link below shows, its really easy to promote an Iconic Booze Tourism product. With lots of money. That's how. The Scottish Government needs a Scotch Whisky Tourism Budget and Policy, immediately. As Financial results and burgeoning world markets show, we can't just leave it up to the Producers who can (and do) make 'Whisky' anywhere, even though this would need to be the starting point. It needs to be a combined initiative for Scotland, THEN for 'The Industry'. There ALREADY are examples of Big Distillery Players coming together to improve things. There already are several joint initiatives. What's a few £million, to £multi billion Corporations? Great to have Stephen Flory from Amps Wine Mechants visit us Thetford Farm Barn. The support they have given in the last decade is a true reflection of their passion, dedication and knowledge. Its no wonder they have so many awards under their belt. 🍷 😍 But I can't imagine it has been an easy ride of late with the struggles the hopsitality industry have faced, and are yet to. The #budget2024 in March is looming, and the road ahead has become even more arduous for restaurants, hotels, bars, and other establishments. Sharing a Taste of Ireland: Not a Secret Santa During our team meeting yesterday, our conversation took an unexpected turn, drifting towards chatting about local delicacies and culinary preferences. It was a nice detour from our usual agenda, signaling the fellowship and rapport within our team. Anyway, believe it or not, one of my colleagues confessed to never having tried traditional sea salt and malt vinegar Irish crisps! Well, I couldn't let that slide. After the call, I reached out to my colleague asking for his address so I could send a small taste of Ireland his way. A box filled with local delights is now on its way to Germany, a gesture that brings joy to both my colleague and myself. Plus, it's a great way to support small local businesses, which I always prefer when it comes to gourmet treats. Wine Australia supporting AWRI - What a Load of Bulldust Part 2 Martin Cole talks about co-funding to conduct research and wants #AWRI to ‘sing for its supper’ via a competitive tender process for research. In other words, collaborate with commercial entities to conduct important research that will place Australian Wine at the forefront of innovation. Does it sound idiotic? A commercial entity gets first access to innovative research and then uses that information for their own competitive advantage. The Australian wine producer (the Levy payer) and the Australian wine industry becomes a follower not a leader in science and innovation. Is that a waste of our levies? Sure is. Is this something akin to the scandal engulfing Price Waterhouse Cooper? Could be. Should the chair and CEO stand down? Probably. Should Julie Collins step in and fix this? Absolutely. The Australian wine industry success is underpinned by the work conducted at AWRI. Wine Australia’s campaign (via the chair and CEO) to undermine AWRI is damaging our industry. Julie Collins welcome to the Australian wine industry led by an organisation that lacks industry representation on its board and whose chair and CEO are more interested in their own agendas rather than the industry that pays their salary.
