Our team in Exton, PA, helped put together food boxes at the Chester County Food Bank. The non-profit’s local farming program, robust distribution network and innovative food security programs all combine to ensure residents of Chester County have adequate access to nutritious food. We’re proud of our team’s unwavering commitment to their community and our human health care (hhc) mission. #LifeAtEisai

As someone passionate about food security, I was alarmed when a national leader in food rescue said to me, “If we pay farmers, they will expect to be paid.” 🧐🤨😱 This statement highlights a critical issue in food sustainability ——->>>> the donation-based model of the charitable food system. That's why I am teaming up with a Pennsylvania farmer to educate her colleagues on food equity for the farmer. Our workshop session title: “Food Dignity: Get Paid to Fight Hunger." It's crucial that we recognize the value of farmers' hard work and compensate them appropriately. Only then can we ensure food security for all. #FoodDignity #Sustainability #Farmers #FoodSecurity #PayFarmers2FightHunger

Today we released a report on how the federal government measures food hardship and two programs that direct U.S. farm produce to foodbanks and food pantries. During the course of this review, my team and I visited a dozen foodbanks and food pantries in New Mexico, Montana, and the area in and around Washington, DC. We learned so much from the women and men working day in and day out to feed their hungry neighbors. They shared their spaces and experience with us, along with numerous experts, state officials, and others we interviewed for this report. We put together five recommendations for how USDA can better support local charitable food organizations and do more to manage performance in the programs meant to assist them. #foodinsecurity #foodbanks #foodpantries US Government Accountability Office USDA

By celebrating the successes of other nonprofits, we can both empower the entire nonprofit community and unlock valuable lessons to enhance our own impact. The Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) is a beacon in the fight against hunger in Chicago. Since its founding in 1979, GCFD has been a pivotal force in distributing food to pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other programs, addressing both immediate food needs and the root causes of food insecurity. Here's an overview of GCFD's key strategies and impact: - Innovative Partnerships: Collaborates with local farmers, grocery stores, and food manufacturers to rescue and distribute surplus food. - Community Programs: Operates mobile food pantries, soup kitchens, and nutrition education initiatives to reach those most in need. - Advocacy and Education: Advocates for policies to address hunger’s root causes and educates families on nutrition and food budgeting. - Workforce Development: Offers job training programs to help individuals gain skills in the foodservice industry. Now take a look at their incredible results: - Distributed over 80 million pounds of food in 2023, providing 66 million meals. - Improved health outcomes through partnerships with healthcare providers. - Helped many secure stable employment through job training programs. GCFD’s holistic approach is creating lasting change in the community. Let their success inspire innovative strategies in your nonprofit! #NonprofitLeadership #CommunityImpact #InspirationalStories #FoodSecurity #Chicago #OrganizedSynergy

Like everyone witnessing the devastating impact of #HurricaneHelene, we’re incredibly saddened as people in the Southeast face unimaginable loss. Even a week later, there’s widespread lack of food access as roads are impassable, power remains out, and some food banks were wiped out entirely. We’re also hearing that some of our farm partners were affected and are just beginning to assess damage to their crops. It’s all yet another reminder of the impact of climate change on our food system and why it’s so important to address it collectively. While we do our part to minimize emissions by fighting food waste, we know that monetary donations to people on the ground are among the most effective at this time. We’re donating $10,000 to our longtime partners at Feeding America who are deploying truckloads of food and other supplies to food banks in the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. We’re also distributing $15,000 among the following organizations doing the important work of providing food throughout some of the hardest hit areas: BeLoved Asheville: operator of food pantries in Asheville, N.C. now providing essential food support and other services Foothills Food Hub: nonprofit that works with more than 84 farmers in the Western North Carolina region to distribute food to pantries and other trusted partners Equal Plates Project: N.C.-based nonprofit that sources from local farmers, address food insecurity and builds community through the sharing of scratch-made meals Golden Harvest Food Bank: supports 24 counties around Augusta, GA Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee: supports 20 counties around Maryville, TN If you need emergency food support, we encourage you to use the Feeding America food bank locator tool to find resources near you. And of course, if you’re financially able, join us in donating to organizations on the ground so we can lift up these communities together on their long road to recovery.

The food industry is a complex, global network of diverse businesses that supplies most of the food consumed by the world's population. The food industry today has become highly diversified, with manufacturing ranging from small, traditional, family-run activities that are highly labour-intensive, to large, capital-intensive and highly mechanized industrial processes. Many food industries depend almost entirely on local agriculture, animal farms, produce, and/or fishing. The food industry has a large influence on consumerism. Organizations, such as The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), have been criticized for accepting monetary donations from companies within the food industry, such as Coca-Cola.These donations have been criticized for creating a conflict of interest and favoring an interest such as financial gains. #snsinstitutions #designthinking #designthinkers

Do you think about the farmer who grows your food? 👩🌾 🌿 Crooked Fence Farm Co-Founder Sarah McCarthy is devoted to cultivating produce. However, like many small farmers, she struggles to keep her land, support her family, and stay afloat financially. This daunting challenge is not unique to Sarah. It's the reality for many small-scale farmers in our region. 💰 FRESHFARM’s expansive network of farmers markets and farm stands offers a lifeline, enabling more than 250 local farmers and producers like Sarah to sell directly to consumers, and keep nearly 100% of their revenue. With a year-end gift to FRESHFARM, you can stand by farmers and help us offer economic opportunities that help them thrive. 💛 The Pop-Up Food Hub also connects local farmers with community organizations that buy in bulk, unlocking significant additional revenue and growth opportunities. Sarah puts it best: “Selling to FRESHFARM’s Pop-Up Food Hub gives us the flexibility to fill larger contracts that we wouldn’t be able to fill on our own as a smaller farm.” ✨ If you care about empowering local farmers to thrive, preserving farmland, and ensuring our community has access to fresh, healthy food, then donate today to support our farmers and help build a brighter food future. https://lnkd.in/dGqGZN_Z #FRESHFARM . . . . #YearEndGiving #Giving #GiveWhereYouLive #GiveLocally #nonprofit #foodaccess #foodeducation #foodequity #foodsecurity #foodsystem #knowyourfarmer #farmersmarkets #holidayseason
