You're never too young to raise awareness of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) and you can be any age to have arthritis. One of the many misconceptions that those with JIA face is the incorrect assumption that arthritis only affects the elderly. Bonnie is just 17 months old and she has arthritis. Children like Bonnie deserve a future free from arthritis. That is why we exist. Our vision is a world where one day no child will have to suffer from arthritis and that is why research into JIA is one of our core strands of work. Until then we aim to improve earlier diagnosis through awareness and provide the support that families need when living with JIA. Project Scleroderma is the name of the organization I founded 13 years ago in honor of my mom who lost her life to an autoimmune disease called scleroderma. Today is Rare Disease Day. On this day it is important that we shed light on the fact that scleroderma is a rare disease and all those who suffer from this illness deserve our care & support not just today, but every day. It is crucial that we raise awareness and support for the scleroderma community in order to continue to advance treatments and get one step closer to a cure. It is equally as important that we pay attention to and educate ourselves on all the illnesses or conditions that are considered rare. Our attention and support are vital in order to save lives and advance research.
