The future of solar energy is bright, but what happens when PV panels reach the end of their lifecycle? With an average lifespan of 25-30 years, we're on the brink of a significant influx of solar panel waste. Italian startup 9-Tech is tackling this challenge head-on by transforming this waste into valuable raw materials. As CEO Pietrogiovanni Cerchier says: “It makes no sense to see these raw materials, which cost a lot of energy, time and effort to be extracted, purified and modified, go to landfills.” With innovative technology, the company’s recycling solution recovers up to 90% of the silver, 95% of silicon and nearly 100% of glass and metals from panels. We’re proud to support 9-Tech on its journey. Read more about their innovation here: https://lnkd.in/eFeHDAHz #SolarEnergy #Innovation #Circularity #Startups

US-based carbon conversion startup AIR COMPANY has raised $69 million in fresh funding to progress its proprietary Carbon Conversion Reactor technology, designed as a one-step system to transform carbon dioxide into products including sustainable aviation fuel. The Series B funding round was led by business aviation fuel supplier Avfuel and supported by sustainable investment groups and other aviation companies. Through the new process, CO2 that routinely would be discharged into the atmosphere is instead captured at source within industrial plants. Then, using its patented AIRMADE technology to mimic the natural process of photosynthesis, the company combines CO2 and green hydrogen to create SAF, alcohol and chemicals, including perfumes. The company says its one-step process is more energy-efficient than competing two-step conversion systems in which CO2 and green hydrogen are combined in a syngas generator then further processed in a Fischer-Tropsch reactor to create liquid fuel. https://lnkd.in/eWrcSun8

Mantel raises $30 million Series A co-led by Shell Ventures and Eni Next for carbon capture - Mantel Capture, Inc. has raised $30 million in Series A funding co-led by Shell Ventures and Eni Next. - The funding will help implement a demonstration project at an industrial site to prepare for full-scale commercial deployment of the company's carbon capture technology. - Mantel’s technology uses molten borates to capture CO2, potentially reducing capture costs by more than half compared to conventional technologies. - The upcoming project will capture 1,800 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, significantly larger than its lab-scale success of half a tonne per day. - Carbon capture involves collecting CO2 from large sources and can prevent its release into the atmosphere. - The International Energy Agency estimates that carbon capture capabilities will only reach 40 percent of the 2050 Net Zero Emissions target of capturing and storing 1 Gt CO2 each year by 2030. - Mantel’s innovative solvent operates at high temperatures, enabling the recovery of high-grade heat during the carbon capture process. - The efficiency of the molten borate system makes installing Mantel’s technology economically feasible for heavy industry sites. - Investors and industry leaders are supporting Mantel to showcase its technology across industrial applications. - Mantel was founded in 2022 as a spinout from MIT’s Hatton Research Group and previously raised a $2 million seed round. - The company aims to play a pivotal role in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through efficient carbon capture technology. https://lnkd.in/gXzz-GKb

Renewable energy specialist ★ Green entrepreneur ★ Helping developers and contractors save money on solar panels
How amazing is this? This startup in Texas is recycling old solar panels that have reached the end of their life and is going to use those materials to make glass for new panels. The aim being to create a circular supply chain within solar. The company's recycling technology allows it to extract 95 percent of the value from used solar panels from the aluminium frame through to glass and plastic. Solar Panel recycling is still a fairly new concept and as the demand for solar panels continues to grow, consideration to what happens at the end of their life, does require more focus. Although, there have been companies recycling old panels for some years, innovative projects like this one at SolarCycle are crucial as the solar industry grows and develops. https://lnkd.in/e9_tTXxu #innovation #renewables #renewableindustry #recycling #netzero
