Did you know? 🤔 Elections Canada does not determine whether political entities followed the rules in the Canada Elections Act (CEA). That is the role of the Commissioner of Canada Elections (CCE), who is independent from us. While we manage political entities’ registration and financial reporting, it is the CCE who enforces the CEA, ensures it is complied with, and takes action if the rules aren’t followed. We help entities understand and follow the CEA rules, but it is the CCE that can gather all the facts, conduct investigations as needed, and determine if rules were broken. ECPS Commentary The EP Elections in Spain: A New Composition of the Radical-right? By Dr. Hugo Marcos-Marne A major concern before the European Parliament (EP) elections was the electoral strength of the radical right and, relatedly, the ability of mainstream parties to resist electorally. Overall results for the 27 member states indicate the consolidation of radical-right parties as a significant electoral force, but also show that mainstream center-left and center-right parties retained enough power to secure a majority in the EP. However, aggregate results often mask different or even divergent dynamics, highlighting that EP elections have had heterogeneous outcomes across European Union (EU) countries. This commentary focuses on the results and effects of the EP elections in Spain. Continue Reading: https://lnkd.in/dxfcbYnr

Rwanda's presidential elections? Paul Kagame was first elected president by Parliament in 2000. From 2003, 2010, and 2017, he was re-elected by universal suffrage with over 90% of the votes in his favor. What will be the political and security implications for the Great Lakes Region, and most importantly, for the DRC considering the strained diplomatic relationship that the two neighbouring states have shared for more than a should Pr Kagame be re-elected for another 5-year term in the upcoming presidential elections?

Elections in South Africa The elections are all but done and dusted. The ruling ANC losing control as a result of a well run campaign by the Zulu ethnic party of former president Zuma. The ANC are still in the majority but now have to form a coalition, or coalitions to remain in control. The practice of deliberately undersupplying ballot papers to the large towns probably shot them in the foot. African countries are generally governed on ethnic lines, but in South Africa because of the seventeen or so different tribes a certain number of non-ethnic votes are required to gain control. Only 58 % of the registered voters cast their vote, and it would appear that Zuma's party in gaining third spot have more or less used most of their available voting power. A very interesting result and it is generally believed that the ANC are on the way out.

Perceived impact of US Elections across the world is a proxy for American Soft and Hard Power as a Global Super Power. We at Gallup International Association have conducted a Global Survey in 2016 and then in 2024 on the issue of US Presidential Elections . One of the question asked is how much of an impact the upcoming US Presidential Election is going to have in your country (43 countries across the World were part of the sample). Results show that between 2016 , there is relative stability in terms of responses . The world continues to feel American Elections have an important bearing on their own country . In fact a slight increase in perceived impact. US policy has bearings across the World and therefore its crucial for US Administration to act responsibly ! This is the message from the latest survey in my personal assessment. The most unpredictable elections ever produced a right-wing minority government, dependent of other party forces. Interestingly, the main winners of these elections, Chega and Livre, end up increasing their political and legislative influence without belonging to the executive. The AD, which won the elections, takes the reins of a country that does not seem to want to let itself be governed. The unpredictability of these elections has resulted in consequent governmental unpredictability. Get to know these and other details in the document we've elaborated at LLYC, which is available here: https://rb.gy/f4okk9.

Including South Africa, 17 countries across Africa are expected to hold elections in 2024. 67% of South Africans are eligible to vote in this year’s election, but Afrobarometer surveys from 2021-2023 found that more than half of South Africans weren’t sure where their polling station was in the most recent election. If you want to learn more about why these elections matter for Africa and the world, read our research report on why 2024 is Africa’s ‘Ultimate’ Election Year. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eixB5aMk
