MACAU - THE FUTURE OF EV IS HERE: #Macao has also seen an uptick in demand for #EVs as the country embarks on a greener future. According to government statistics, the total number of #EVs in the city has tripled since 2020. As of 30 April 2022, the city is home to 3,150 EVs, including 2,184 light vehicles, 457 heavy vehicles and 509 electric motorbikes. In my recent trip to Hongkong and Macau, it seems like there are a lot more #Tesla cars on the road especially if you are up at the mountain top of Victoria Peak in HongKong. A TNO delegation travelled through South Korea and Japan to showcase R&D knowledge and strengthen ties with (potential) partners in areas such as Smart Cities, Smart & Sustainable Mobility, and Chip Technology. CEO Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi emphasises the need to boost innovation in the Netherlands with inspiration from our Asian-Pacific partners advocating for long-term, focused investments in key tech sectors. Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi delivered the keynote speech on invitation of the Korean Ministry of Land Infrastructure & Transport. We expanded our activities in the region due to significant investments in technological developments. Together with Professor Takehiko Nagumo, Director of the Smart City Institute Japan, we signed a MoU for cooperation in ‘Sustainable Wellbeing.’ The institute develops indicators, including social cohesion, to make sustainable wellbeing measurable. Our #StreetWise and #UrbanStrategy technologies drew significant interest, presenting major collaboration opportunities. Addressing the aging population in South-Korea and Japan, our #predictivetwins technology can help create family-friendly cities. The annual GREENTECH FESTIVAL in #Berlin is the global platform that empowers changemakers and promotes green technologies for a more sustainable future. We have been pleased to be there again this year as an exhibitor and with content contributions! I have been thrilled not only to having spoken in an exciting panel discussion, but also having met with F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg and Greentech Entrepreneur Marco Voigt to discuss Huawei's innovative solutions for the generation, storage, use and control of renewable energies, with which we contribute to the success of the energy transition. 🌍#Innovation and #Sustainability: During my exciting panel discussion on "Forget killer robots: Is AI already destroying our planet?" together with Erin Beilharz from Lufthansa, Romi Sumaria from Terra Quantum AG and Bernard Leong being the excellent moderator, I highlighted the role of accelerated #digitization in environmental and climate protection and how it strengthens the competitiveness of the German economy. 🗼 Example of #AI in Mobile Networks: I could put forward the example of AI in sub-systems such as being used by Huawei in base stations. AI monitors traffic flow over the day/week/year and identifies usage profiles. Based on the usage profiles and much more important the early indicator pattern detection, the performance of the base station can be adapted to the demand. The performance of the base station adjusts very close to the actual traffic demand. The energy saving potential of this AI application is drastically greater than the energy expended for the AI system. 🚀Technology for the future: More than 50% of our 200,000 employees work in research and development, with 25% of our turnover going into this area. Our "More Bits, Less Watts" strategy aims to increase the energy efficiency of our products by 270% and save over 52 million tons of CO2 globally by 2025. ⚡Efficiency through technology: With advanced IT infrastructure in #5G, fiber-optic technology and efficient data centers, Huawei is optimizing processes in numerous industries and helping to significantly reduce the global carbon footprint. It has been a fantastic #GTF being held at Messe Berlin for the first time! I've had a week off and am ready for one of the best weeks of the year. Why is it the best, you ask? Because of @CenexExpo, of course! This year it is shaping up to be quite eventful. I'm starting by meeting with a South African contingent alongside Nicholas Brooks and Hiten Parmar. Then, I have time to prepare for my session in the innovation zone on Empowering Urban Mobility with Rishabh Ghotge, Pablo Decelis, George Beard, Mark Urbanowski and Katie Miller-White. We will discuss how the evolution of micromobility in cities can help on the journey to net zero. We will hold conversations at the Cenex Networking Zone for people who want to ask more questions of the panel, or follow up on the topic. On Wednesday afternoon, I will be with IUK Project SLICED, a joint project with South Korea that examines how data and smart city systems can be integrated with fleet management to result in safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly operations. The team from Cenex (Steve Carroll and Tom Allerton) will be with other partners, Flexible Power Systems, at the Cenex Networking Zone. Anyone is welcome to come and ask us more about the project. THAT'S JUST DAY ONE! On day two, I will talk to people about depot chargepoint sharing with the IUK Paua Pins Project. Creating opportunities for fleets to share depot chargepoints will be a vital piece of the jigsaw for many to transition to electric. This project examines which depot makes a good match and how to simplify the process. Finally, I have set aside some time at 11 am in the Cenex Networking Zone to speak to people about the challenge of addressing hearts and minds in the journey to Net-Zero. If this subject interests you, please come and say hello and learn more about the Human Insights Team at Cenex. In the gaps, I plan to attend some great seminar sessions, learn about amazing new technology, and meet up with old and new friends (and maybe have lunch!). I'm sure you have already registered - but in case, here is the link

Managing Director at Specialized Sweeping Services | Director at iVac WA | Over 20 Years of Industry Experience | Leading Innovation in Excavation & Sweeping Services
On my last travels to Singapore for the CleanEnviro Summit Singapore, an unexpected encounter awaited me at the airport – a charming robot sweeper, diligently making its rounds. It’s moments like this that emphasize the leaps we’re making in sweeping technology. Equipped with sensors and smart systems, this little marvel represents the future that's unfolding before us. Despite my traditional roots in the industry, I find myself excited about these advancements. There's a sense of wonder in watching such autonomous solutions at work, ensuring cleanliness with a level of precision and efficiency that was once the stuff of science fiction. Yet, as much as I marvelled at this technology, it also sparked a reflection on the balance between human skill and robotic efficiency. While I may not be as tech-savvy as the younger generation, I appreciate the importance of staying updated and relevant in this digital era. The advancements in our field, like the robot sweeper I encountered, are a clear sign that Specialized Sweeping must remain at the forefront of innovation. So, here's a question for all my connections: How do you see the integration of such technology shaping the future of our industry? Are we looking at a new norm for cleaning services? As for me, I can’t wait to see what’s next on the horizon. Perhaps there’s room for both tradition and technology to coexist and complement each other in our quest for cleaner, smarter cities. Cheers, John Ayres
