History was made on 9th July 2024 when the Ariane 6 rocket launched into orbit for the first time. Developed and built by ArianeGroup on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA), Ariane 6 represents a leap forward in independent space access for European member states, and incorporates the innovative Vinci engine and several improvements on existing launch technology. Element is very proud to have contributed to this success as a testing partner of both ArianeGroup and Airbus Defence and Space, delivering both materials testing and product testing to support decision making and ensure the safe and successful development and launch of this project. Element's testing programmes included the qualification of composite and metallic materials, production controls and specific mechanical properties determination. Our expert teams used our state of the art capabilities across the Element Toulouse and Element Seville facilities to support our partners on this incredible and exciting project for the ESA. Learn more about Element's Aerospace capabilities here: https://lnkd.in/eWEnFHm9 The video of the launch is available to watch here: https://lnkd.in/g99v6-zH Everyone at Element would like to congratulate all the people around Europe who made Ariane 6's first flight possible, and wish the programme all the best for the future. #ElementMaterialsTechnology #MakingTomorrowSaferThanToday #Ariane6 #Space #EuropeanSpaceAgency #MaterialsTesting #ProductTesting

Launches Europe made it! https://lnkd.in/dkgZazfn Regarding accessible Launches for Arianespace, it is very interesting that one Satcom and one commercial EO were launched by Space x in Q2/24, because the 3 DoD and 3 Gov missions would not have been an option for non US Launch provider . As for the reusability of the first stage, it has been shown that with about 15 launches/year this really makes economic sense. So the design of Ariane 6 with approx. 10 launches per year makes perfect sense. https://lnkd.in/deRvZdvy

PLANUM BOREUM. The terrain surrounding #Mars’s north pole, known as Planum Boreum, is fascinating. The pole itself is covered in layers and layers of fine dust and #water ice; these stack several kilometres thick and stretch out for around 1000 km (approximately the width of France). You can see the beginnings of Planum Boreum to the right of the frame, with some subtle wrinkling showing where layers of material are starting to build up. These layers formed as a mix of dust, #water ice and frost settled on the martian ground over time. Each layer holds valuable information about #Mars’s history, telling the story of how the planet’s climate has changed over the past few million years. In martian winter, the layers are topped by a thin cap of #dry ice (#carbon #dioxide ice) a couple of metres thick. This cap completely disappears to the atmosphere each martian summer.

The countdown starts - the first take-off of Ariane 6 is scheduled for 9 July 🚀 The countdown is on! 🌌 Today is finally the day - the first launch of Ariane 6. 🛰️ At the ILA Berlin Air Show in June, ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher announced the exciting news: the launch of Ariane 6 will take place from the European space centre in French Guiana. Today at exactly 19:30 it will be time! 💫 With pride, we look back on this gigantic project and remember the extensive structural tests we carried out for it. Our experts developed a monumental test rig to validate the inter-tank structures of the Ariane 6 rocket. 💪🏼 This allowed us to test the strength, stiffness and reliability of these critical structures thoroughly and successfully. Now it's time to say goodbye. We are excited and are looking forward to the successful launch, which we will follow live on YouTube https://lnkd.in/e-jiCj_2 Safe journey, Ariane 6! The test mission was carried out and financed as part of an ESA programme, with the Ariane Group acting as the main contractor. The static tests were tasked to Applus+ IMA Dresden by MT-Aerospace. Ready for take off? 🚀 #Ariane6 certainly was – and we came, too. Or to be precise, materials supplied by us. Yesterday was the inaugural flight for the next generation of the Ariane launch vehicle family. And we’re happy to say that our colleagues from thyssenkrupp Aerospace supplied aluminum plates for the thrust frame at the core stage and Vinci Thrust Frame (VITF). The venture provided material for the most powerful European expendable launch system of today. Space projects are still quite the challenge: They require state-of-the-art technologies and its materials must be extremely resilient in order to withstand extreme conditions in #space and during space travel. 💪
