https://lnkd.in/g5zjCUNd As we move towards the end of May - Mental Health Awareness Month - it's crucial to highlight some eye-opening statistics, provided by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, underscoring the importance of mental health care: 🔹 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year. 🔹 In 2021, only 47.2% of U.S. adults with mental illness received treatment. 🔹 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year. 🔹 In 2021, only 65.4% of U.S. adults with serious mental illness received treatment. 🔹 1 in 6 U.S. youth have a mental health condition, but only half receive treatment. 🔹 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24. Today and everyday moving forward, let's make a conscious effort to become more aware of others, especially in the workplace. Here are some ways to be more mindful of mental health: -Observe Behavioral Changes: Notice if a colleague seems unusually withdrawn, agitated, or overwhelmed. -Encourage Open Dialogue: Foster an environment where discussing mental health is normalized and supported. Simple check-ins can go a long way. -Offer Support: Let your colleagues know that you are available to listen without judgment. Sometimes, just knowing someone cares can make a difference. -Educate Yourself: Learn about common mental health issues and their signs. And beyond the workplace, let’s become more self-aware and observant to those around us: -Family and Friends: Pay attention to changes in mood, behavior, or routines. Offer a listening ear and encourage seeking professional help if needed. -Self-Awareness: Reflect on your own mental health and recognize when you need support. It's okay to ask for help. -Community Support: Engage in community activities that promote mental health awareness and support services. Let's break the stigma, start conversations, and support one another.

Mental Health Awareness Month allows us to educate ourselves on the importance of taking care of our mental health. National Council for Mental Wellbeing shares that 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year and that 50% of mental illnesses begin by age 14. We have come a long way to ensure that mental health is a topic discussed frequently in our society, but there is still work to do to ensure it is a priority, and we can start doing that by prioritizing our own mental health. And if you know someone that may be going through a mental health situation, check in on them, since that could be very helpful to them. In the link below, you can find very useful resources that can help you stay informed about mental health and how to increase awareness on its importance. Mental health awareness is not something that should be limited to this month, but this brings a great opportunity to start conversations about how to improve and prioritize our mental health as individuals and as a society.

Let's talk about mental health. We all have 'mental health' - it's the shape it's in that matters. Here are some sobering statistics from mental health charity MIND: * 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England * In any given week in England, 3 in 100 people are diagnosed with depression * In any given week in England, 8 in 100 people are diagnosed with anxiety and depression * In any given week in England, 4 in 100 people are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Poor mental health costs people their jobs, their relationships and sometimes, the happy, stable future everyone deserves. This week (May 13th - May 19th) is Mental Health Awareness Week. Luckily, we're more enlightened about mental health conditions than we've ever been. Businesses like Rockett St George consider it their responsibility to look after their employees' emotional wellbeing, and it's a commitment they take very seriously. Here at RSG, for instance, Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) are in place to offer staff anonymous, confidential mental health advice and counselling. It's free to anyone who needs it, at any time, no questions asked. https://lnkd.in/dEJSHh_B

Community Prevention Officer at Surrey County Council and volunteering as a Facilitator at Andy's Man Club
World Mental Health Day On World Mental Health Day, let’s unite to talk openly about mental health and show that it matters. For me, every day is Mental Health Day. In my role with Surrey County Council, running Men’s Pit Stop and supporting Andy’s Man Club, we encourage men to share their struggles, fostering resilience and well-being. The State of Mental Health Today Mental health issues are pressing, with WHO reporting that 1 in 8 people worldwide live with a mental disorder. In the UK, the rate of adults experiencing depression rose to 21% during the pandemic. Men are often less likely to seek help, with only 36% actively doing so. I recently met Charley, who leads a women’s support group, Grow and Glow. We connected over our shared mission, recognizing that by supporting each other, we can offer more comprehensive mental health support. Understanding Low Mood and Hopelessness Feeling low can involve sadness, disinterest, or heaviness, while hopelessness can bring a sense of powerlessness and withdrawal. Both can be deeply isolating, making genuine support crucial. The Importance of Support Mental health issues affect individuals and communities profoundly. With one in five people experiencing suicidal thoughts, we need open discussions and supportive environments. On World Mental Health Day, take a moment to ask someone how they’re really doing. Together, we can work toward a future where mental health is prioritized, and no one feels alone. I promise to continue the work I have started and aim to reach as many men as possible while also creating new relationships with other providers to better serve our community. How is your employees' mental health? "Breaking the Silence: Addressing the Mental Health Stigma In today's fast-paced world, mental health has become an increasingly important topic of discussion. Yet, despite the progress we've made, the stigma surrounding mental health still persists. As we step into 2024, it's crucial that we continue to challenge the misconceptions and stereotypes that hinder individuals from seeking the help they need. Mental health affects us all. It knows no boundaries, and it doesn't discriminate. It can impact anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Yet, many still hesitate to open up about their struggles due to fear of judgment or being labeled. This stigma not only prevents individuals from seeking support but also perpetuates a culture of silence and shame. It's time to change the narrative. Let's create a society that fosters empathy, understanding, and compassion for those facing mental health challenges. By educating ourselves and others, we can break down the walls of stigma and create an environment where seeking help is seen as a sign of strength, not weakness. In 2024, let's prioritize mental health as an integral part of our overall well-being. Let's normalize conversations about mental health, promote access to quality mental health services, and ensure that no one feels alone in their journey towards recovery. Together, we can make a difference. Join the movement and be part of the change. Let's challenge the mental health stigma and build a world where everyone feels supported and empowered to prioritize their mental well-being."

The first week of October is Mental Illness Awareness Week—a time to reduce stigma and increase awareness around mental health. But here’s the thing: awareness alone isn’t enough. We need to change how we think about mental health treatment, not just when things are in crisis but as a preventative measure for everyone. Too often, I hear people say, "I’m not sick enough," or "It’s just anxiety, I can handle it," and wait until they’re in crisis to seek help. But mental health care should be proactive, not reactive. Whether it’s work burnout, family stress, or simply feeling overwhelmed, you don’t need to wait for things to fall apart to deserve support. At Amend , we’re challenging this narrative. Our program isn’t just for those in crisis—it’s for anyone who needs a reset, a chance to pause, realign, and take care of their mental health. This is the start of something bigger: changing how we think about mental health care entirely. But this conversation needs to go further. We need to break the idea that only people at rock bottom deserve help in a residential setting. Mental health care should be accessible and normalized for everyone, at any stage of life. How often do you check in with yourself? How are you feeling? We monitor our heart rate, sleep, and diet, but we don’t track our emotions? That’s the missing piece. In general, there is so little education around mental health, emotional regulation, and emotional intelligence. Yet, being aware of how you’re feeling is just as important as tracking your physical health. It starts with awareness, but we need to go beyond that and build systems and habits that help us stay emotionally healthy before things spiral. challenge the stigma together by making proactive mental health care the standard.

🌍🧠 World Mental Health Day 🧠🌍 10 October 2024 🤍 Our country is at crisis point, with 2 million people stuck on waiting lists for NHS mental health services. In the past I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to use employee assistance programmes, afford counselling, and have a stunningly supportive group of friends around me to support my mental health. Not everyone is that fortunate. We need to build a system that supports people at their time of need. More importantly, we need to build a society that puts measures and support structures in place that prevent the need for mental health intervention. I will always advocate for preventative measures to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout, particularly in the workplace. 🧠 Today is about shining a spotlight on mental health, however, every day should be dedicated to supporting those who need help. We need to support each other. Message a friend you’ve not heard from in a while. Give someone a compliment. Ask somebody how they are (twice). Smile at a stranger. Little things make a big difference. If you’re struggling. If you need to talk. If you need to take time to rest, or step away from situations that are negatively impacting your mental health. Support is available. Reach out. Follow Mind for more information, support and advice. 🌍🧠
