Imagine starting a journey that spans three decades—here was my Day 1  Everything starts on Day 1... I and my 2 Co-Founders all worked at the same place – right down the road from where we are now. We worked hard. 50- and 60-hour weeks were not uncommon. But we were part of a hardworking, dedicated team all working toward the same goals, so it was OK. Until it wasn’t. See, in general, the company we worked for wasn’t winning. There were often cutbacks and general struggles. It wasn’t terrible but working that hard and not winning wasn’t a great feeling. So, one day, one of us (there is some debate on which one of us) walked in and said, “if we are going to work this hard, we should do it for ourselves” (for the record, I am firmly convinced it was me) We were a nice combination of hardware and software guys – we understood personal computers (and mainframes – hey, I said it was 30 years ago – stop judging) - and computer networks were starting to be an important part of small business. So, over dinner one night, the company was born. We each threw in $100, and we were off and running. We started as Andromeda Computing Systems – a name borrowed from a company I already had for writing software. One more evening spent in one of our attics – and we had a logo and a business card design. Our goal from day 1, which still drives us today, was to help people.   Computers and networks were complicated and hard to get working (in many ways, they still are), and people needed our help to succeed. 30 years of a focused purpose continues today and can be seen in our company’s Core Purpose: “Helping People Succeed.” That was a long time ago, and we have helped many people along the way. Clients and Employees, Vendors and Partners, and the folks in our community. We are far from done. The 3 co-founders are still here today. We show up daily with that same passion for winning – the same passion that drove us to Day 1 - three decades ago. Here is to my two co-founders.....what a ride! 

It’s working. Q3 was an incredible quarter for Leland. Our coaches helped thousands of customers reach their most ambitious goals and it still feels like we're barely scratching the surface. Big shout out to all of our coaches, customers, investors, and of course, the full-time Leland team. We’ve stayed lean, created tons of leverage, and driven super efficient growth. Still so much to do, but very excited about all the progress we’ve made. So what’s working? 👩🏫 We have hundreds of amazing coaches across several categories that are really investing in their businesses on Leland (and have collectively made millions through the platform) 📣 Organic growth is on 🔥 — customers are telling their friends and family about us and we have two other organic channels rolling 🔨 The product is getting better — we’ve built scheduling, session, packaging, and payment tools that are really hitting 🎉 Customers are using us for multiple goals in their lives across career and education 💪 We have an incredible community of supporters (you) that continue to make this journey so rewarding Stay tuned for some big announcements and moves in the coming months. Congrats to BrightHire on an amazing year. A few takeaways: - Speed is the most important thing in a startup. BrightHire has shipped new products and features at a torrid pace this year, further enhancing the value it delivers to its users on a daily basis and opening itself up to new customer segments. BrightHire’s customers know that they have aligned themselves with a product that will continuously evolve and get better and that when they are told something is on the roadmap they can confidently expect to see it soon. - Deliver value to your customers before they are your customers. BrightHire receives a lot of love from its users for delivering on its promise of making them more effective at their jobs, but also, more uniquely, from their not yet users because they make valuable contributions to the the broader Talent Acquisition community. This works because BrightHire genuinely cares about pushing the world of Talent Acquisition forward. BrightHire manages a slack group of hundreds of TA professionals — both customers and non-customers — and consistently puts out high quality practical content. For example, BrightHire has been openly sharing fascinating proprietary interview intelligence data (eg how interviews are conducted and what is discussed and by whom) in an attempt to help TA practitioners and the industry as a whole level up. By not keeping this data private, BrightHire has become a name synonymous with data-driven professionalism in talent acquisition. Companies who produce significant amounts of data as a byproduct of their product’s usage should contribute that data to the broader industry discourse, thereby placing themselves at the forefront of the most interesting conversations taking place in their field. - New category creation happens slowly then quickly. When BrightHire first pioneered the domain of Interview Intelligence, there was a lot of market education to be done. But a few factors have led to an acceleration in momentum that only gets faster with time: (1) After 75 glowing reviews on G2 (4.8 stars) customer acquisition becomes a lot easier. Almost any prospect BrightHire engages with could reach out to a first degree connection and get a reference on the product, and it is always easier to take a peer’s word for it than a vendor’s. (2) One underreported SaaS metric is when your user moves from one company to another, how likely are they to bring your software with them — I would bet BrightHire is in the top 10% of all companies by this metric. As your number of customers grows and you’ve been in market longer you naturally start to see more of this behavior. (3) The market is way more aware of AI now and individual users have felt the magic of AI-powered experiences in their personal lives and crave it in their professional lives. This leads to TA professionals now actively seeking out interview intelligence solutions, and when they do, all roads lead to BrightHire. Here’s to 2024! #talentacquisition #vc

Crisis Services does sound extraordinary work.

Not everyone in your company thrives in a 9-5. (Or 8-6. Or whatever schedule you might be trying to box all of your employees into.) Some of your people do their best work at 6-7am and are mentally DONE by 3pm and expecting anything from them after that is pointless. Some of your people’s creativity and flow kicks in at 3-4pm and anything before 10am is pointless. Allowing your people the kind of flexibility that allows them to be productive, get into flow, and be the most creative FOR THEM is actually what’s best for your business. Even if that means you can’t schedule a 9am meeting with some or a 4pm meeting with others. Don’t put your people in a box. Focus more on results than a time on a clock.
