When you think of athletes who participate in big sport events, many think of the big names that dominate - Cristiano Ronaldo, Max Verstappen, Novak Djokovic. But the vast majority of athletes who participate in events such as the Olympics or World Cup do not have the same platform, resources, and leverage as the stars, with the majority not considered employees or protected by workers rights. What happens when athletes are subject to unsafe conditions, such as excessive heat or contaminated water? To what extent are athletes free to express themselves on and off the field? What efforts are in place to prevent misconduct and abuse against athletes? These questions are more relevant than ever, particularly in the context of the ongoing #EuroCup and the upcoming #ParisOlympics. One of the best elements of the Paris 2024 Paralympics was the Ottobock #unofficialdiscipline campaign. The campaign highlighted a key social focus of the Paralympics - for individuals to reach their human potential, we must move beyond accommodation and into true inclusivity. There are one billion disabled people in the world that are waiting to find and live their talents. But that journey? It starts with stairs. Most people don’t think twice about stairs. But for those of us with disabilities (I include myself as I have a neurological condition #charcotmarietooth) scenes like this - endless stairs - can make every day a challenge. Inclusion starts when you leave home. “In my daily routine, I have to think about everything.” Yes! This! I have to consider everything. How I get from A to B. Uneven surfaces. Stairs. Footwear. Fatigue. (Those stairs in the picture are at the metro stop to get to one of my doctor appointments.) To move toward a truly inclusive society, we must consider every element of life and what can be done to ease the frictions - and in doing so, we can truly enable all people to live their best lives. Are OMEGA SA are currently the winning the sponsorship race at the Paris 2024 Olympics? As both a watch, and a sports fan, I am enjoying and interested at seeing professional athletes competing (and winning) in luxury watches. Athletes not wearing the usual Garmin, WHOOP, COROS, etc. associated with athletes and sports, but in some cases wearing watches well in excess of £10k. As well as being the official timekeeper, Omega has multiple Ambassadors competing in the games. And the alignment is there; precision, performance, and consistent development. Their winning athletes are bound to the clothing brands to each country, such as Team GB and adidas, but Omega has the ability to sponsor the most high profile athletes, regardless of the country they represent. Omega's Ambassadors claiming gold so far are: Hifumi Abe Leon Marchand David Popovici Thomas Ceccon Kaylee McKeown Diego Botín and Florian Trittel Yaroslava Mahuchikh (bottom right) Noah Lyles Mondo Duplantis (bottom left) Keely Hodgkinson (top left) Gabby Thomason (top right) If Omega Ambassadors were a country, they'd be 3rd in the medal table. Another Olympic opinion while we are at it for my dance friends and international friends. IS THIS HOW WE REALLY TREAT EMERGING COUNTRIES/ATHLETES IN OLYMPIC DISCIPLINES As I read comments on my timeline about Olympic Breakdancing it occurs to me how little people know about how a sport is added to the Olympics. It also serves as a warning for how some might perceive my sport - cheerleading which is provisionally recognized and hoping to make an appearance at the games in the near future. Cheer has battled stereotypes since its inception but with its modern advancements many see value and Olympic potential in its current athletic format. Sadly- some may not. What worries me more is the views I am seeing on my timeline from those heavily involved in cheer about the progress of sport in different countries. It’s not a good look. As someone who owns a company that has operated in 42 countries and personally contributed to the global growth and development of cheer in a way that very few can compare I am disappointed in the way some are making fun of “Ray Gun” the B-Girl from Australia. These type of attitudes are EXACTLY what our international community has faced at the hands of cheer many times over. It’s part of the reason we were able to set ourselves apart and build a company whose mission is to “Connect, lead, educate and inspire the global cheerleading community” We never adopted typical views and always believed that international athletes and programs were capable of anything with proper education, instruction and guidance. Many of them have even risen to the point where THEY are the global standard. Can you imagine if we only taught those deemed “worthy” of our instruction. NEVER! It’s clear that some people have never had to “coach” athletes in places where cheer is still developing! Sometimes it may not meet the international standard but that’s how sport grows!!! How else are these countries supposed to learn. When I look at the arguments in the international division concerning the advancement of more than 3 American teams - this whole Breakdancing debacle rings true. A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (or Olympic Championship) for that matter demands global participation for legitimacy. Having only teams from one singular country makes it a national event not a global competition. I’m grateful as a company (Spring CDT) and as humans (Lisa & Kenny) we understood that early on. I’m sad that so many in our sport are seeing “leaders” in our industry bash the efforts of those that they don’t think are enough for the Olympic stage. Some of whom are happy to take “glamorous” international trips on their company’s dime while simultaneously mocking the people they are supposed to be helping. SHAME. *continued in comments

Deceleration is a skill and a physical quality that goes under the radar in sports that are required to sprint and change direction. It needs more attention. Here's why 👇 Players are fast. An example of this is the current #euro2024 football championships. The top 12 fastest speeds recorded by players range from 35.1km/g to 35.9km/h 🏃💨⚡ Players will take a fair amount of time and distance to reach those speeds, and it will put certain stressors on the muscularskeletal and central nervous system. HOWEVER....Players are required to change direction instantaneously .....going from fast speeds to zero to re-accelerate. This is where the biomechanical load on the body is far greater 🥵 💥Players will potentially go from 35/36km/h to 0 in a matter of about 2 metres. Remember, it probably took them 10-20 times that distance to hit top speed. 💥 So, if you are a player or coach reading this, make sure you know what demands are required in your sport and how you train to improve them. #sportsperformance #sportscience #strengthandconditioning #speedagility #deceleration #footballstrengthandconditioning #soccerstrengthandconditioning
