Collaboration is crucial for fast-tracking equitable climate action, by bringing together diverse perspectives, resources, and expertise, nurturing innovative and comprehensive solutions that benefit all communities. We believe that working collectively ensures inclusive decision-making and shared ownership, which are essential for sustainable and just climate initiatives. 🌍 Celebrating Women Leading the Climate Battle 🌱 In the complex equation to solve our global crisis, we must consider climate, biodiversity, resources, and the human factor. Today, let's shine a spotlight on 8 incredible women at the forefront of the climate battle. They're either pioneering concrete solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and curb global warming, fortifying communities against climate impacts, or championing fairness and equity in climate action, addressing the disproportionate impacts on vulnerable communities. Meet the women changemakers paving the path towards a sustainable future: Carine de Meyere: In 2021, she sparked the Hurry Up Group, rallying 225 change-makers to combat the sluggish progress in climate solutions. Elise Buckle: With her talented and diverse global team, she cultivated a network of 300+ partners, advocating for inclusion and diversity at every level of decision-making, forging unity for climate solutions. Flávia Maia: Engaged in diverse networks worldwide, her mission is to nurture the next generation of climate leaders—individuals who value emotions as much as emissions. Happy Itros Sanga: Each year, Happy supports 10-15 school dropout girls in kickstarting their eco-businesses through her organization, fostering sustainability and empowerment. Nasha Ayelen C.: Leading projects organizing local and regional climate change conferences, connecting over 350 organizations and empowering 10,000+ members in Latin America. Rumee Singh: Currently streamlining efforts for timely humanitarian responses to aid vulnerable households in flood-prone regions. Sandrine Dixson-Declève: Founder of the World Trade Organization Environment Committee, implementer of the first Environmental Management System on a nuclear facility, she recently co-authored Earth4All to accelerate systemic changes for climate. Victoria Herrmann: working to increase access to heritage adaptation and transforming conservation as a field to meet the challenges of the climate crisis. Imagine being told you had to develop a solution to a really difficult problem, but you had to ignore at least 50% of the best ideas? Or being asked to build the best team, but with at least 50% of the talent being excluded. That would be infuriating, right? Well, that's exactly what we do when we don't include women in the design and delivery of conservation projects.    Trying to tackle the world's biggest problem - nature loss and climate change - while ignoring least 50% of the best ideas and people is completely nuts. Yet, sadly, it still happens in small and big ways everyday, and that has to change.   Research shows only 12.3% of the top climate scientists are women, and they hold less than 15% of environment minister positions.   To help change this, my colleague Robyn James and her fantastic team and partners are hosting women leaders from around the Asia Pacific and Africa for Nature’s Leading Women 2024, which connects women to resources, opportunities and supports so they can develop and lead their own solutions.   There is more to do, but efforts like these are important parts of the journey.   The Nature Conservancy Asia Pacific #thenatureconservancy #genderequity Read more: https://lnkd.in/g-QWGhS3

The Funding Trends 2024 report from ClimateWorks Foundation highlights a 20% increase in climate change mitigation funding in 2023, reaching an estimated $9.3 to $15.8 billion. This surge underscores a growing recognition of philanthropy’s critical role in addressing one of the world’s most pressing challenges. A standout theme in the report is the shift toward community-centered climate action. This approach prioritizes local leadership and grassroots efforts, recognizing that the communities most affected by climate change often have the deepest understanding of how to address its impacts effectively and equitably. Here’s what the report reveals: Empowering Local Leadership: There’s a clear shift toward supporting locally-led initiatives that tackle both climate mitigation and adaptation, putting communities at the forefront of change. Equity and Inclusion: Investments are being directed toward communities historically excluded from climate decision-making, fostering more inclusive and sustainable outcomes. Strengthening Partnerships: Funders are working more closely with grassroots organizations, creating collaborations that amplify impact and scale innovative ideas. I Just finished reading an eye-opening piece by Bindu Bhandari in Arrow for Change's bulletin, diving deep into the profound issue of eco-anxiety amidst our changing climate. Bindu's insights struck a chord with me, prompting reflection on our collective responsibility and the urgent need for action. She Born in the same month as the drafting of the UNFCCC, and witnessed decades of discussions and commitments to combat climate change. Yet, as Bindu eloquently highlights, the gap between awareness and meaningful global action remains troublingly vast. Her discussion on eco-anxiety resonates deeply. It's not just about understanding the environmental impacts but also grappling with the emotional toll of witnessing these changes unfold, especially for communities disproportionately affected like those in Nepal. Bindu's experience at COP26 underscores the complexities and frustrations surrounding global climate negotiations. The disparity in commitments and representation echoes the need for stronger, more equitable climate policies that prioritize justice and resilience. What stood out most for me was Bindu's call to transform eco-anxiety into a force for positive change. It's a powerful reminder that our concerns can fuel advocacy and policy efforts aimed at building a sustainable future for all. As I reflect on her article, I'm inspired to continue supporting initiatives that promote environmental justice and resilience.
