We are thrilled that Dayforce received our 2023 Workplace Impact Award for their Achieving Corporate Equity (ACE) program. Launched under the leadership of Donnebra McClendon in 2022, the program continues to demonstrate a remarkable commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. ACE addresses the professional development and advancement opportunities for minorities at Dayforce. Through individualized coaching, mentorships, and comprehensive learning modules, participants receive the resources and guidance to reach their full potential. The program also includes group sessions, where cohorts collaborate on assignments and projects, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. In 2023, Dayforce expanded the ACE program to include additional resources and support for participants. Sessions with psychologists were increased, providing crucial support for overcoming past traumas and personal obstacles. The Leadership Lecture Series was also expanded, further enhancing participants' leadership skills and knowledge. ACE increased internal mobility opportunities and reduced pay and hiring disparities. The impact of Dayforce's DEI efforts have been significant: less than a 1% disparity between men and women globally, 49% representation of women in their workforce, 50% of Board of Directors being women or people of color, and recognition on the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index for the second consecutive year. As Dayforce looks ahead to 2024, the firm stays committed to further expanding and refining the ACE program. They plan to identify global business problems that DEI can help solve and enhance internal mobility opportunities for ACE participants. #WorkplaceImpactAwards

This week was my last week with Executive Networks. What a great 3+ years, it's been. Hands down, Executive Networks is the most employee-friendly organization I have ever worked with. From leave policy to #inclusion in practice, under Michael Dulworth's leadership, the organization is a trendsetter when it comes to valuing employees. Like one of my friends recently remarked, "treating us like grown-ups". What next? I have come to realise that #work for me is not tied to employment. Working in #DEI continues to evolve - I learn every day, I hope to talk about it more and engage in #dialogues. DEI expands beyond organizations of course, and #socialequity continues to be my quest. And #wellbeing. Wellbeing and Inclusion are intrinsically connected, although not apparent. #Environment and #climatechange is the larger factor that plays in the background as I firmly believe that connecting back with #nature is our way to connect with our own selves and fellow beings (not just humans). It is a wonderful coincidence that I worked with global leaders in both these areas through the DEI and Global wellbeing networks during my tenure at EN.

Whilst it is easy to see the progress of tackling a lack of diversity in business as a linear one, this is not always the case and so we’d like to raise a point. This year there have been a number of backward steps. The Tech Talent Charter announced that it will stop its work in August after finding that D&I initiatives were no longer considered a priority. The campaign found similar issues within the advertising industry. In 2021 73% of advertising execs were white, by 2022 it was 90%. A 2024 report on NHS comms positions have noted a similar backward trend. The point we have to raise is that to help the underrepresented get into the workplace, we need to be proactive. These issues will not resolve themselves. As we look back on six years of CEO Action, we celebrate the tangible impact they’ve made in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within workplaces. It is an immense honor to collaborate with such an exceptional organization, supporting their determined efforts to foster inclusive spaces for all. By becoming a signatory of CEO Action last year, we opened new doors and opportunities for our employees, enabling them to acquire new skills and forge meaningful connections. To further strengthen this valuable relationship, we've sent four employees through CEO Action's Mentoring Program, pairing them with influential members for growth and networking. The program has been well-received, and we aim to continue nominating more employees to embark on this enriching journey. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Community of Practice Breakfast, hosted by the incredible Shenin Lebrun, Founder and CEO of Hustle & Heart Consultancy. The event featured two inspiring guest speakers, Jeffrey van Brakel who shared insights around the Pay gap in Tech and Judi Mesman who shared her work on Leadership in Color. Here are some key takeaways that Judi Mesman shared of her research: 1️⃣ Think before you start: Assess if your organisation is truly ready for diversity at the top. Is there enough support from leadership to challenge the status quo? 2️⃣ Be realistic: One person of color in a leadership role won't solve all diversity issues. A clear mandate and shared responsibility are essential for meaningful change. 3️⃣ Listen and take seriously: Consider the experiences, concerns, and suggestions of colleagues and leaders of color regarding limiting norms and racism. Ignoring or trivialising these issues is not an option. 4️⃣ Focus on structures, not just individuals: Shift the focus from individual behaviours to organisational structures and work culture when striving for inclusivity. 5️⃣ Avoid the marginalisation pitfall: Don’t view marginalised individuals as the source of problems or lack of success. Foster development across the entire organisation to ensure progress isn't solely dependent on the adaptability of the person of color. These insights remind us that true diversity and inclusion require collective effort and structural changes.
