Happy Juneteenth, everyone! Juneteenth, officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is celebrated on June 19 to mark the end of slavery in the United States. On this day in 1865, Major General Gordon Granger enforced the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas, freeing the last enslaved people in the Confederacy. Complete abolition followed with the ratification of the 13th Amendment on December 6, 1865. This day is a time to reflect on the progress and accomplishments of the Black community. While there is still much work to be done, Juneteenth reminds us that a brighter future is within our reach. Let's continue to support each other and create spaces where racial barriers and systemic racism can be dismantled. This day is especially meaningful as a reminder of our ability to overcome. The legacy of slavery still impacts aspects of life today, and we must challenge our personal biases and internalized racism to break down the barriers that persist. #Juneteenth #Freedom #Equality #BlackCommunity #Progress

Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom, Inclusion and Reflection Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the abolition of slavery, implementing the Emancipation Proclamation. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 186f3, but the news took over two years to reach Texas due to communication delays. Today, Juneteenth is a time to celebrate progress and honor the resilience of our past. It’s a moment for self-reflection: What more can we do to dismantle racism, promote inclusion, and ensure true liberty for all? Let’s continue learning, engaging, and working toward a more inclusive society. #Juneteenth #JuneteethCelebrations #blackhistory #humanrights #antiracism #inclusion

A pivotal moment in Reconstruction: Mississippi rejoins the Union (1870) On this day in 1870, Mississippi became the 9th state readmitted to the Union following the Civil War. This marked a significant step towards national reconciliation, but came with a crucial condition: the state constitution could never be altered to disenfranchise African Americans. While this decision represented progress, it also highlighted the ongoing struggle for racial equality in the United States. As we reflect on this historical event, it's vital to acknowledge the complexities of Reconstruction and its lasting impact on American society. #blackhistorymonth #bcvoices #standupspeakout

On this Juneteenth, let us reflect on the essence of this historic day and the unfinished battle for racial justice in our country. Juneteenth celebrates the day in 1865 when Union forces arrived in Galveston, Texas and proclaimed that all enslaved people were officially free. This occurred over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Although Juneteenth is a commemoration of independence and liberty, it also serves as an awareness of the prolonged and devastating history of slavery and systemic racism in the United States. Let us honor the courage and fortitude of everyone who fought for freedom and justice and let us commit ourselves to establishing a more inclusive, equitable, and just future for all. 🎉🎊 Happy Juneteenth from all of us at the Crime and Justice Institute (CJI)! 🎊🎉 Today, we join in commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrating the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black communities across the nation. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, marks the day—June 19th, 1865—when news of emancipation reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice, equality, and freedom. At CJI, we are committed to advancing racial equity and dismantling systems of oppression within the criminal justice system. We recognize that the fight for justice is inseparable from the fight for racial justice, and we remain dedicated to centering the voices and experiences of communities disproportionately impacted by mass incarceration and systemic racism. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #EmancipationDay #RacialEquity #JusticeForAll

It takes us to save us. United in our community, we can work towards the liberation of Black people, freeing ourselves from the bondage of systemic injustice—mentally, physically, and spiritually. Liberation is about breaking free from the constraints of inequity that bind us. It’s about uplifting one another and ensuring that every member of our community has the tools they need to thrive. Justice begins with us. It begins with how we treat each other, how we advocate for those who are marginalized, and how we show up for our community. As students, your voice is powerful. You have the opportunity to drive change—through your work, through activism, and through your vote. I, Kyara Ofuani, am running for Justice of the Peace Precinct 7 Place 1 because I believe in a system that works for everyone, not just the few. On November 5, 2024, I ask for your support—not just with your vote but with your continued engagement in this fight for justice. Together, we can ensure that fairness and equality become the cornerstone of our community, starting with Precinct 7. #JusticeForAll #VoteForKyaraOfuani #JPPrecinct7place1 #CommunityFirst #EmpowerChange #YourVoiceMatters #SupportLocalLeadership #CivicEngagement #YourVoteCounts #MakingADifference #LeadershipInAction #JusticeWithIntegrity #Election2024 #TogetherForJustice

As a half-Japanese/half-Irish man, I feel compelled to share why I specifically support Juneteenth. For me, it's not just about celebrating a specific day, although its inclusion in our calendar is a monumental achievement, recognizing the long struggle for freedom and equality and serving as a powerful call to action. We are reminded every day that the hard work of dismantling systemic racism is far from over and, in fact, that progress is being reversed. I feel that if I can make a difference - even to one person - then any effort I contribute is meaningful, and I encourage everyone to give what they can. Just as a single thread may be fragile, but many threads woven together create a strong fabric, our united stand against injustice can form an unbreakable bond and a foundation for lasting change. This allows me to use my voice to challenge not only racism but other forms of harassment and discrimination in our society. As allies, we must speak out against injustice in all its forms and stand in solidarity with marginalized communities. Join me in moving from reflection and quiet support to creating a louder voice for change. What can YOU do to make an impact today - and every day? Together, we can make a difference! #juneteenth #hughesviews #equity #blackhistory
