It's Pride Month: a time to celebrate love, diversity, and the LGBTQ+ community! However, while we celebrate the progress made so far, we recognize the work that still needs to be done. According to Mental Health America, LGBTQ+ teens are six times more likely to experience symptoms of depression than non-LGBTQ+ identifying teens, and LGBTQ+ youth are over four times as likely to attempt suicide compared to heterosexual youth. Our blog written by Counslr’s Jessica Wolsiefer, LCSW explores the history of pride month, LGBTQ+ mental health, and what we can do to work towards an inclusive society for all. Read the blog on our website! https://lnkd.in/g8fwVrsx – Empathetic leaders choose Counslr to empower their people and make it simple for them to prioritize their mental health. During #mentalhealthawareness month this year, let’s challenge ourselves to have conversations that expand beyond addressing mental health crises to recognize that we also need to invest in creating systems that promote #mentalwellness, especially for children and youth. Let’s challenge ourselves to have brave conversations that go beyond finding solutions to reduce inequities in access to mental health treatment to also identifying strategies to eliminate the #racism, #homophobia, and #ableism that increases the risk of suicide and other mental health challenges among people of color, LGBTQ+ folks, and people with disabilities. Mental wellness is not just an individual resource, it is a community resource. When more people in our communities experience mental well-being, we’re all better off. So let’s commit to not leaving anyone behind! You can start by educating yourself about the mental well-being of #LGBTQ youth. https://lnkd.in/dgBDcu_x

How can parents and caregivers enhance the #MentalHealth outcomes of their LGBTQ+ loved ones and provide support? “Most important for a caregiver … is supporting your child regardless of whether you understand all aspects of queer identity. Simply treat them the way they want to be treated (including names and pronouns) and let them know you love them unconditionally.” - the Family Guide to Supporting Young People’s Mental Health and Well-Being, developed by Project Cal-Well. ❗The @trevorproject has released their U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People. Here are some of the key findings related to mental health.: "Despite the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and suicide risk among LGBTQ+ young people, half of them were not able to access the mental health care they desired. And among the small percentage of transgender and nonbinary young people who said they received gender-affirming medical care, nearly 3 in 5 were worried about losing access to this care." It's not surprising that 84% of LGBTQ+ young people reported wanting mental health care. What is surprising is that only half were able to successfully access this care. The biggest reasons why including being afraid to talk about mental health concerns with someone else, not being able to afford healthcare, or not wanting to have to get permission from their guardian. ⚡ Learn about the importance of access to mental health care and gender-affirming medical care and this report at The Trevor Project: https://lnkd.in/gSiQSqri #MentalHealth #MentalHealthForAll #MentalHealthMatters #YouMatter #June

What are most Millenials and Gen-Z looking for in a church home? A sense of community. By implementing small groups, ministries can establish a community for their members that extends beyond Sundays and the four walls of the church. At Encounter Atlanta, our small groups are called eHuddles. We have age-based and life-based eHuddles, including Singles, Marriage, Single Moms, Place (for the LGBTQ+ community), Inner (focused on mental health), and more. Does your ministry have small groups? If so, which categories are offered to your members? #ministryleadership #smallgroups #churchleadership #seniorpastor

Striving to use my passion and knowledge for health and wellness to improve the well being of all individuals, as it is a human right to a healthy life.
As a woman with a little sister in the LGBTQ+ community, I am sharing this post to bring awareness to the facts that the realm of public housing still has a profusion of work to do regarding the mental health of LGBTQ+ members. "Compared to non-LGBT people, LGBT people have higher rates of poverty, lower rates of homeownership, and higher rates of homelessness. LGBT people face an array of stigma and discrimination that undermines their ability to have stable, safe, and affordable housing. Federal, state, and local laws provide only a patchwork of protections against anti-LGBT discrimination in housing, lending, and social services... The federal Fair Housing Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act do not expressly prohibit discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation and gender identity, but they do prohibit sex discrimination and many courts have concluded anti-LGBT discrimination is a form of sex discrimination under these and similar statutes" ("LGBT People and Housing Affordability, Discrimination, and Homelessness").
Having a supportive community is essential! If you, a friend, or a loved one is seeking LGBTQ+ mental health resources, here are some options to consider. #PrideMonth
