"Managing Human-Wildlife Conflict: Insights from BORA’s Datuk Dr. John Payne" Managing human-wildlife conflict is crucial in Malaysia to preserve its rich biodiversity, sustain ecological balance, and ensure both human safety and economic stability. These conflicts, often driven by the exploitation of natural resources and competition for space, can lead to severe declines or even extinction of wildlife. Effective conflict management is vital for sustainable development and meeting legal and ethical responsibilities, fostering a harmonious coexistence between wildlife and communities. In response, Bringing Back Our Rare Animals (BORA) is leading efforts in habitat recovery to address these challenges. BORA’s initiatives include the establishment of the Sabah Ficus Germplasm Centre, wetland restoration in the Kinabatangan floodplain, and the preservation of the Malayan tiger population. Join us to gain valuable insights from Datuk Dr. John Payne, who, through his extensive work with BORA, will share essential strategies for managing human-wildlife conflicts and promoting a balanced coexistence between humanity and nature. Strategy planning My first big task with Tengah Island Conservation is to guide the team to build the framework and navigate our conservation efforts. For the past 3 days, we have crunching numbers, brain storming and identified the main threats, and the strategy to reduce the threats, to conserve, protect and rehabilitated our conservation target which is sea turtle, habitat protection (coral, seagrass, mangrove), and sustainability component(waste management and sustainable tourism for the islands). I believe TIC has done great job in gathering past science data for the last decade, and it's time to drive the team into a bigger tasks and role in protection of marine environment in Johor. #najastory #strategyplanning #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
