Energy and LNG Learning Tips: Cogeneration and LNG 🔍 Understanding Cogeneration and LNG Cogeneration, also known as Combined Heat and Power (CHP), is an efficient process that generates both electricity and useful heat from a single energy source. When Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is the primary fuel, cogeneration can play a pivotal role in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 💡 Tips for Maximizing Benefits: Integrated Planning: Design the cogeneration system to align with the specific heat and power needs of the facility, ensuring optimal efficiency. Fuel Quality: Ensure the LNG quality is consistent. The methane content, higher heating value, and contaminants can affect combustion efficiency. Safety Protocols: Given the flammable nature of LNG, it's imperative to maintain stringent safety protocols for storage, transport, and combustion. Thermal Efficiency: Focus on maximizing thermal efficiency by minimizing heat loss through improved insulation and optimized steam cycles. Emission Controls: Use advanced emission control systems to reduce the environmental impact, especially when burning LNG. Load Management: Periodically evaluate and adjust power and heat demands. Optimal load management can extend the system's lifespan and improve efficiency. Continuous Monitoring: Utilize advanced monitoring systems to ensure the cogeneration process remains efficient and to detect any potential issues early. The #IOGP-#JIP33 initiative is developing an industry standardised procurement specification for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and would like to invite suppliers who have expertise in this area to participate in the pre-framing phase of our development process. A Supplier Questionnaire for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) has been created to help build a profile of standard and optional Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) features currently available in the marketplace which meet the needs of the oil and gas industry. The questionnaire period runs for 2 weeks and will close on Sunday, 24 September 2023 at 23:00 GMT. Efficient Use of Energy in Oil and Gas Upstream Facilities #EnergyEfficiency and #ProcessOptimization should be the first levers to tackle energy users and stationary combustion sources in any decarbonization program. (save this using the top-right dots) The global #OilandGas industry, as part of the energy transition, is focusing on decreasing energy use, increasing energy efficiency, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Energy optimization is part of the broader path to greenhouse gas emissions reduction in the upstream oil and gas industry, which includes minimizing energy demand as well as maximizing efficiency. The mission of the IOGP Energy Efficiency Expert Group is to provide materials that will support widespread implementation of energy efficiency technologies and practices for existing and new offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities. This Report is intended to guide upstream oil and gas organizations on improving energy efficiency and reducing GHG emissions and energy costs, regardless of an organization’s current progress towards decarbonization. It aims at enabling companies in evaluating their current energy efficiency practices from an organizational, asset, system, and equipment-level perspective to identify gaps and improve energy efficiency, and shares recommended practices for energy management and optimization for the design, installation, and operation of new and existing equipment and systems. The document is split into seven main sections, each covering a step on the broader path of greenhouse gas emissions reduction in the upstream oil and gas industry: • Section 1: Energy assessment/audit • Section 2: Energy management system • Section 3: Process system design • Section 4: Process system operation • Section 5: Measurement and verification of benefits • Section 6: Energy efficiency key performance indicators • Section 7: Examples and lessons learned • Section 8: Future insights and operational strategy #engineering #instrumentation
