I had an amazing experience at the "Transform Research with Gen AI on AWS" workshop hosted by Saint Louis University (SLU)! It was a fantastic opportunity to delve into responsible AI development, security, privacy, and leveraging AWS services for robust AI solutions. One of the key highlights was getting hands-on experience building a Healthcare GenAI Q&A chatbot, where we developed a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system. Using AWS services like Glue (for data cataloging, quality, and processing), SageMaker (for embedding data as vector representations), and S3 , we transformed the HealthCare Q&A dataset into vector embeddings and stored them in the Amazon OpenSearch index. We then built a user-facing application using Streamlit and connected it to the backend RAG functionality, allowing users to interact with the chatbot seamlessly. Also validated the RAG approach by checking the Lambda API output, which was a valuable learning experience for me. The workshop also featured insightful demos of Amazon Q and Bedrock, illustrating how AWS facilitates plug-and-play AI solutions and scalable foundation models. Generative Chemistry is a key aspect of the AI-driven scientific method, transforming hypothesis generation, experimentation, and knowledge management. It connects the dots across these complex processes, acting as an orchestrator to call upon specialized models and techniques. Here's why Generative Chemistry is revolutionary: 🔬 It allows scientists to generate millions of candidates, increasing the search space for potential solutions. 🔬 By leveraging this technology, researchers can go beyond their own knowledge and biases, tapping into the collective genius of the scientific community. 🔬 This innovation helps discover brand new molecules, atomic structures, and potential products, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Adrian Dumitrascu highlights that Generative Chemistry also guides chemists on optimal material synthesis, accelerating the journey from discovery to final product. Another favorite moment of mine was seeing Ester De Nicolás demonstrate the new, more sustainable battery they designed using Azure Quantum Elements to condense two decades of material discovery into two weeks.
