8X rise of commerce traffic inside Gated Communities --------------------------------------------------------- We are seeing a 8X increase in deliveries now vs. 3 yrs back fuelled by Q-Com What could this mean for real estate developers and new age residential projects - Less need for grocery/general store inside gated communities. - Large communities (>500 units) - should consider Q-Com tie ups for dark stores inside communities - Create dedicated parking & drive lanes for deliveries to avoid congestion - Have default wifi video doorbells for home to speak to delivery execs from anywhere & record visit - Create designated areas to manage parcel at main gates & lobby areas What else do you think the future of resi projects should include based on this insight?

What does it say about businesses’ self-belief if they think it’s parking charges that are stopping customers coming into town at Christmas? What evidence do councils, BIDs and other business groups have that free parking pulls in the punters rather than a town or city centre’s festive appeal? It’s not costing anyone anything so why does it matter, you ask? Well, if you could spend December’s parking profits improving your High Street’s appeal, ask yourself would this top your list? A big part of the reasoning for running parking as a chargeable service, is it helps manage who can park where and for how long. So why stop this for the busiest days of the year when people want a trouble-free trip and are eager to spend? Hopefully some food for thought here, gleaned through our experience running the People, Places & Parking Process with associates Park Consult. At Christmas, or any time of year, our focus is on taking an evidence-based approach to providing parking that better meets customers’ needs. There are often simple solutions, even if they are not always the first ones that come to mind. #towncentes #citycentres #christmas #parking #parkingmanagement #sustainabletravel
Is free parking the perfect gift for shoppers? Picture the scene, you are dashing into town to buy presents and are greeted by a long queue to park. Without a proper assessment of parking supply and demand, the seemingly benevolent act of offering free parking may result in shoppers being turned-away at the busiest time of the year. Do you think that the offer of free parking will attract people to an unappealing place? What message does subsidising parking give to people travelling more sustainably to town? In his detailed analysis of benefits and drawbacks of free parking, our People, Places & Parking Process co-founder Richard Ofield, sets-out how a better-balanced approach -such as free or cheaper parking limited to peripheral areas- can help mitigate issues and serve shoppers better, at any time of year. https://lnkd.in/ddzG_3HY

Let's lose a ton of tenants over parking/parking cost issues then make less free parking options available. This is the playbook for how to ruin a destination retail zone anywhere in the world! #sundanceslowdeath https://lnkd.in/g-xt75rm

I went to UPS yesterday with an arm full of packages. I was not able to open the door for myself as carrying the packages was a delicate balancing act. Another customer who was inside, happily came to open the door for me. This got me thinking, why aren't automatic doors standard - EVERYWHERE? Every grocery store has them, many public buildings, and airports etc. have them as standard. But doesn't the neighborhood UPS? I would guess 90% of the people entering are carrying boxes and packages to be shipped, so why do they not have automatic doors? This is a perfect example of "accessibility is necessary for some but benefits everyone." If organizations are looking to up their accessibility game, having automatic doors as a standard would go a long way to improving access. #AccessiblePlaces #BenefitsEveryone #Innovation #HumanResources

I frequently contemplate these matters, as I utilize a cane for daily ambulation. Depending on my planned activities and my physical condition, I may employ my all-terrain Rolator. I have not required the use of my wheelchair for an extended period of time now. When using my Rolator with an item in hand, I simply place it within the large pouch located beneath the seat. I have devised a method to open the door slightly, prop it with one wheel of my Rolator, advance slightly forward, and rotate to utilize my rear to prop the door as I maneuver backwards into the establishment. It may seem cumbersome, but it effectively enables me to enter without the assistance of an automatic door. Conversely, if I am using my cane with an item in my right hand and there is no automatic door, I am unable to enter without assistance. These considerations necessitate careful planning and execution. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on one’s perspective), I no longer drive due to health reasons. Thus, I am fortunate to have assistance with carrying my belongings most of the time. But, it would be nice to not have to think about it.

Creating connections in main street stores. Irrespective of the benefits that come with shopping online, main streets remain vital to human interaction in our communities. So how can brick-and-mortar stores continue to facilitate these connections? http://ow.ly/RcQS105WMfi
