Travelling to Munich today with DeepTech Alliance executive director Thomas Klem Andersen for the kickoff of our 4th Advanced Manufacturing Program, hosted by UnternehmerTUM I go to a lot of conferences and events - because you got to practice what you preach - the best way of creating meaningful collaborations and relation, that will lead to action, is the physical meet-up. That is where people with specialised knowledge and exceptional skills can tap into structures that will connect them with the right resources and people with complimentary skills, to take them further and beyond and create a impact bigger than what they would be able to achieve alone. But not only the structures need to be in place. Essential for the success of an ecosystem of innovation are the connectors - the glue that helps add up the parts to be greater than the sum of the components. People in Open Innovation, who work on the inside of the corporates to identify needs, look for solutions and help smooth the way for collaboration, POCs and pilot projects. CVC units who will support deep tech ventures with risk capital for large capital investments, that would be very difficult to find through traditional VC or other capital structures. People in the Incubator, accelerator and venture builders around Europe who work to support, develop and add robustness to the startups coming through their ecosystems. But to me, nothing compares with our own community events. Great people from the best deep tech Startup hubs around Europe, Open Innovation, CVC’s and Tech scouts from the most forward leaning corporates from Europe and beyond - many whom we have know for long and look forward to catching up with - and a sprinkle of new people joining and a brand new batch of mature European startups selected by our members with guidance from our corporate’s needs. Last week's Startup Days 2024 brought together the entire startup ecosystem to Bern for a day of learning, networking, and inspiration. Here are my main highlights: Keynote speeches and workshops allow information sharing and some exciting presentations by experts in the areas. My tactic is to go to the ones which are outside my area of expertise - then I definitely learn something new! This year there were over 40 sessions featuring more than 125 speakers, providing diverse knowledge and expertise. Startup Pitch Sessions: The event introduced a new pitching format for “Youngsters,” targeting startups in the seed or pre-seed phase that didn't pitch before, particularly those focused on DeepTech or AppliedTech. Congrats on becoming Catch of the Jury to: - Manukai AG by Pascal Weber - Lightium by Frédéric Loizeau and Amir H. Ghadimi - Inveel by Barbara Horvath Networking Opportunities: As usual, that's where I spent most of my time! Short 15-minute 1:1 meetings are perfect to meet new teams, as well as recap and get updates from existing connections! Exhibitions and Marketplace: Many many stands from startups to startup ecosystem support and big companies. It's always great to pass by and have a chat with new teams. Content Hub: Nicely, this year there is on-demand access to sessions and podcasts to catch up with my missed sessions. Innovations are happening less and less within companies and more in so-called innovation clusters as part of open innovation initiatives and collaborations between established companies and startups. 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩 𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
