🔥🚨 Important Fire Safety Alert: Adhering to Correct Clearances for Fire-Rated Doors 🔥🚨 Did you know? Properly maintaining clearances on fire-rated doors is essential for their effectiveness in emergencies. NFPA 80 provides crucial guidelines for your safety. Here are key details you need to know: 1️⃣ Clearances for Head, Jambs, and Meeting Stiles: Hollow Metal Doors: Maximum of 1/8 inch +/- 1/16 inch HPDL-faced & 1/3-hour-rated Wood Doors in Metal Frames: Maximum of 1/8 inch +/- 1/16 inch Fire-rated Wood Doors over 1/3 Hour: Maximum of 1/8 inch Other Materials: Maximum of 1/8 inch unless otherwise specified 2️⃣ Bottom Door Clearance: Maximum of 3/4 inch (from door to floor/threshold) Maximum of 3/8 inch for doors >38 inches above the floor (e.g., access doors) Always adhere to the hardware manufacturer's guidelines 3️⃣ Thresholds: Follow the specific instructions from the manufacturer Maintaining these tolerances is challenging but crucial for the performance of fire door assemblies. Recent tests indicate that neglecting these clearances can significantly compromise the effectiveness of fire doors. Remember your annual fire doors inspections! Per NFPA 80, for swinging fire doors, the visual inspection and operational testing must include verification of the following 11 items: 1. There are no open holes or breaks present on surfaces. 2. Glazing is intact and in place. 3. Doors, frame, and hardware are secured and in working order. 4. Parts are not missing or broken. 5. Door clearances are within required specifications. 6. Self-closing devices are operational. 7. Door coordinator (if installed) functions correctly. 8. Latching hardware secures the door when it is closed 9. Auxiliary hardware does not interfere with door or frame. 10. Field modifications have not been made that void the label. 11. Gasketing and seals are in place, where required. Lyman Code Consulting. Simplify Your Life Safety #asc #lifesafety #healthcare

🚨 Critical Findings: Non-Compliant Passive Fire Protection 🚨 Our latest fire compartmentation survey uncovered alarming non-compliant methods of passive fire protection that could jeopardize safety: Use of Non-Compliant Foam: Many installations utilized foam products that don’t meet fire resistance standards, risking fire spread. Improperly Sealed Joints: Fire-rated joints were often inadequately sealed, allowing smoke and heat to bypass barriers. Damaged Fire Stopping Materials: We found instances of damaged or outdated fire stopping materials, compromising compartment integrity. Damaged Fire Barriers: Fire barriers were often damaged or altered without proper evaluation, undermining their intended function. These findings highlight the importance of using compliant materials and methods to ensure safety. Let’s address these issues proactively to protect lives! 🔍🔥 Contact Flux Fire Protection for all passive fire protection requirements: 🔸 Fire Barriers✔ 🔸 Penetration & Head of Wall Seals✔ 🔸 Acoustic / Air Sealing✔ 🔸 Fire Compartmentation Surveys✔ 🔸 Fire Door Inspections & Remedial Works✔ 🔸 Fire-Rated Beam Encasement✔ 🔸 Intumescent Coatings✔ 🔸 Masonry cavity barriers✔ www.fluxfire.co.uk | info@fluxfire.co.uk | 03301759109 #FireSafety #PassiveFireProtection #Compliance #BuildingSafety

Understanding the Importance of Intumescent Strips for Fire Doors... If you're looking to ensure the safety of both individuals and property in case of a fire, intumescent strips play a critical role. Here are some essential points to consider when dealing with these vital safety components: 🔥 Intumescent strips contain a material that swells when exposed to heat, sealing the door and preventing gaps that could cause the spread of fire. Depending on your requirements, you may need products that offer fire protection only or both fire and smoke protection. 🔥 Your Building Regulations or architect will provide you with the necessary specifications for your fire doors. To achieve the desired fire rating of either 30 minutes (FD30) or 60 minutes (FD60), you must review the test reports for the products used by the door manufacturer. 🔥 Smoke protection requires a fire and smoke strip (FD30S or FD60S), and a drop-down seal may also be required. 🔥 Fire and smoke intumescent strips are available in various forms, such as brush pile or fin, and provide both fire protection and a smoke seal. 🔥 The fin type of intumescent strip also has an acoustic rating, which helps to reduce the transmission of sound through doorsets. #firestopping #firesafety #passivefireprotection

🚪 WHY ARE FIRE DOORS IMPORTANT? A fire door is an engineered safety device that is a crucial part of the passive fire protection of every commercial, public and multiple occupancy building. A fire door acts just as any other door in normal service; however in a fire it takes on a critical role – to save lives and protect property. It does this by holding back the spread of fire and smoke through a building for a designated period, giving time for building occupants to escape. A fire door is not just the door leaf. It is a complete assembly comprising the frame, any glazing, intumescent fire and smoke seals and all the ironmongery that is used on the door, such as hinges, overhead door closers, latches and locks. Just like other life safety devices, such as fire extinguishers and alarms, fire doors and final escape doors need regular, stringent inspection and maintenance to ensure that they will perform as intended in the event of a fire. Filmed from our Testing + Technical lab; we compare what happens to a FD30 fire door that has a correctly specified and installed sealing system Vs an unsealed door during an indicative fire test... #FireDoorSafetyWeek #FDSW24 #FireDoors #FireSafety #FireTest

According to the NFPA 13 Handbook, the general rule is no, sprinklers cannot be reinstalled once removed from a fitting or welded outlet. Why? Because during removal, key components—like the water seal or glass bulb—could be damaged, even if you can’t see it! 🔍💧 But there’s an exception! If the sprinkler is connected to a drop or riser nipple, and the pipe (not the sprinkler) is unscrewed from the fitting, it can be reused in a new location. 🔧 Always follow NFPA and manufacturer guidelines to keep your fire protection systems in top shape! #FireSafety #SprinklerSystems #NFPA #FireProtection #SafetyFirst

🔥Check it Tuesday!🔥 🚪Ensuring fire doors are in good condition is crucial for safety.🚪 Visual Inspection: Look for any visible damage, such as cracks, holes, or warping. Check the door frame, hinges, and seals for wear or gaps. Self-Closing Mechanism: Test the self-closing feature. The door should close fully and latch without assistance. If it doesn’t close properly, adjust the closing speed or replace the closer. Seals and Gaps: Inspect the intumescent seals around the door edges and frame. Ensure there are no gaps between the door and frame. Hardware and Signage: Confirm that fire-rated hardware (locks, handles) is installed correctly. Verify that fire door signs are visible and legible. Remember, regular inspections and maintenance are essential for fire door effectiveness! 🔥🚪
