Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) are critical in planning and decision-making processes for projects that may have significant environmental effects. EIA analyses and mitigates potential impacts on the environment, wildlife, and human health before project approval. It ensures sustainable development practices by considering environmental consequences and engaging public participation to minimise negative outcomes. #EIA #EnvironmentalImpact

📢 CrossGov project partner Gunnar Sander from Norsk institutt for vannforskning (NIVA) has as a part of the work in CrossGov published a scientific article, which provides important messages about ocean governance and highlights why European approaches are important in a global context. 🌊 The observation that marine spatial planning has taken over as the ruling paradigm for ocean governance is important. So is the observation about the “conservationist camp’s” focus on marine protected areas (MPAs), forgetting ecosystem-based management as a more holistic approach that could ensure a better selection of the MPAs that are supposed to cover 30% of the oceans and better protection of the 70% outside MPAs. 🌊 The implications of this should provide input to the work in CrossGov’s work on biodiversity and pollution; the successful implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) in all the MSs would probably have reduced some of the environmental problems we can observe in the European seas. MSFD should be a key instrument for the European Union if it wants to achieve the EGD objectives for its oceans and seas. 📝 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/ezT92gmc Froukje Maria Platjouw Laura A. 👀 Take a look at the EU's Landmark Nature Restoration Law 🌿 In June, the EU approved the groundbreaking Nature Restoration Law, aiming to rehabilitate at least 20% of degraded ecosystems by 2030 and all by 2050. This first-of-its-kind regulation sets binding targets for member states to restore forests, wetlands, rivers, and more, significantly enhancing biodiversity and climate resilience. Key highlights: -Binding restoration targets -Focus on carbon-capturing habitats -Major boost for biodiversity and ecosystem health This law is a big step towards a sustainable future! Congrats to all those who have made this possible!🌍💚 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/edhYwEc6 #nature #biodiversity #eu #sustainabilityregulation #esg #sustainablefinance #sustainability #esgregulation

🎉 Today marks a victory for nature: the EU Environment Council has approved the Nature Restoration Law, which requires EU member countries to restore 20% of their degraded ecosystems by 2030 and aim for full restoration by 2050. This is great news for nature, biodiversity, ecosystem restoration, and a prosperous Europe. From here on, we need to act, monitor, and scale our nature restoration efforts, combining scientific and ethical rigor. As a geospatial platform that brings visibility, transparency, and connectivity to the global restoration movement, we at Restor, can only welcome this regulatory framework. #RestoreNature

Detailed report on #biodiversityloss from the Oireachtas committee on Environment & #ClimateAction. One of the important quotes from the report on #naturalcapital from Martha O'Hagan “Nature provides us with multiple benefits, or ecosystem services, which we need to assess and value. We invest in and produce detailed accounts of our produced capital, such as our roads and buildings, and our human capital, including our health knowledge and skills. However, we have long underinvested in and undervalued our natural capital.” Going forward, it is important that the inclusion of natural capital along with national and corporate accounts to provide a more sustainable view of GDP and to better enable #sustainabledevelopment. To quote Dieter Helm from his book 'Natural Capital Valuing the Planet' "by putting natural capital into the economic equation, the present and the future would be very different places as we confront thw damage and poluution we cause". With a better understanding of the (capital) benefits derived from nature ad what funding is required to maintain/enhance these benefits, "the next generation would then inherit a better set of natural assets".
NCI's Martha O'Hagan and Dr Emer Ní Dhuíll attended today's launch of the Oireachtas Committee on Environment & Climate Action's report on their consideration of the Citizens Assembly on Biodiversity Loss Recommendations at Leinster House #CABioLoss The Committee identified six areas with gaps in implementation: - Environmental law and enforcement; - Rights of nature; - Funding Nature Restoration; - Land Use and Water; - Mandates of semi-State Bodies; - National Biodiversity Action Plan and Protected Sites. NCI was delighted to have given testimony to the Citizen's Assembly and to the Oireachtas on funding #Nature Restoration Jane Stout Business For Biodiversity Ireland Read the report here: http://bit.ly/41l9aeS #SeeForYourself Pictured: Claire Cooper, NPWS, Minister of State Malcolm Noonan, Dr Deirdre Lynn, NPWS & NCI, Dr Emer Ni Dhuill, Dr Martha O'Hagan Luff

On one hand you have the net DCF of all the net bio gain schemes/contracts that you sign up to as a Landowner but with this comes binding decades upon decades of liabilities and access to third parties and a layer of charges on the title This will in many cases devalue the estate as would a company AHA tenancy or a miriad of wayleaves You absolutely must do the overall financial calculation and even those traditional estates that remain in single ownership for generations need to be wary. Those estates that remain relatively eco virgin in terms of contractual liabilities may well in due course command a premium over those that are bound up in contractual liabilities of maintenance and charges.
