How are you? A simple yet important question, and one we should ask each other regularly, not just on World Mental Health Day. I think it’s great that we use today to raise awareness about mental health issues and as an opportunity to mobilise efforts to support mental health, especially when more needs to be done to make care a reality for people worldwide. This year’s theme is ‘Workplace Mental Health’. It serves as a reminder of the importance of a healthy workplace, which is one that promotes open conversations, offers support, and actively tackles issues. We all have a duty of care to each other in the workplace. We still have a lot of work to do in reducing the stigma around mental health but let’s use today as a reminder to make it an everyday conversation. So check in with those around you today, and when you ask, ‘how are you’? actively listen and respond. #worldmentalhealthday #workplacementalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #wellbeingatwork

"You have the opportunity to create your own future by going out there and grabbing it with both hands" Getting to the midway point of my first year as a Project One Future Leader has left me in a reflective mood, especially as it dawned on me that 18 years have already passed since I started my career as a John Lewis & Partners graduate. What have those 18 years taught me? 1. You create your own opportunities: Having realised I had a passion for driving change, I landed my first transformation role by taking a week's holiday and spending it working alongside the change team so that I could get valuable work experience and insight into what working in change really meant. The minute a role was available, I got that tap on the shoulder to apply. 2. Have a next career goal in mind: I don't believe in having career plans that are overly structured, but I'm a big believer in having a target and being on a mission of where I ultimately want to get to. For me, I always wanted to work in consultancy so that I could share my expertise and experience with others. 3. Be prepared to take risks: I've moved industries four times, and with one of those moves, it involved taking quite a pay cut and reduction in responsibility, but I knew it was the right thing for me to get a foot in the door. It's not always about the journey upwards, sideways is often a better way to get to your goal. 4. Build relationships with people who have impacted your career: For me, there are a handful of people who have really impacted my career to date, and who have always been there for me as a mentor or a coach. Surround yourself with a strong network of trusted advisors that you can turn to time and again. 5. Have a growth mindset: I've worked across a huge variety of change and transformation initiatives; ERP, HR & employee self-service, pensions, contact centre, digital, customer self-service, supplier management, and corporate real estate. Be inquisitive and ensure that every day's a school day. This week, I had the opportunity to have a career discussion with our Project One CEO, James O'Sullivan. James has had an inspiring career, having worked through the ranks of Project One to land the top job, who better to discuss what the next 18 years might look like. Yesterday was a bucket list moment 🤩 I got to visit my favourite distillery and fill my own cask 🥃 Nc'nean Distillery has been my favourite whisky since I first came across them in 2021. Not only because the whisky is delicious 😋 but also because they’re a young, experimental distillery, pioneering sustainable production. I’ve always been really impressed with the lengths they go to in their drive to be sustainable, including their biomass boiler which I got to see in action yesterday. Not only are they committed to being sustainable, their CEO is Annabel Thomas so it’s all driven by girl power 🙋🏼♀️💪🏻 A big thank you to the Nc’Nean team for making it such a memorable experience. Can’t wait to drink some in a few years time!

How do you know you need Change Management? 👀 In our latest Project One article, I share my thoughts on the red flags to look out for, that will help you realise if you need to bolster your Change Management approach, as part of your change or transformation.
