Date 21-Jan-2020, In partnership with Rivers State RedCross and the Johns Hopkins University, a stimulation of emergency response were conducted at mile-4 axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State... Expected emergency response team which includes: the police, the fire service, the traffic management team, the ambulance and hospitals owned by both government and private facilities, etc, all parameters turned out poorly in the emergency management system. The report and briefing was shared with the Rivers State Govt through the office of the special duties at the time.... My question is simple; have we recorded improvement on our emergency response as a community? What are the lessons? And can we make a positive change to our society in our capacity?

Today was day 1 of 3 supporting the Metis Nation in its Emergency Management journey and supporting their citizens. Decolonizing Emergency Management is a priority for Hazardscape. As we look to the future of Canada and its Indigenous peoples, in the context of disasters, helping them to secure funding without conditions is a primary aspect of self-determination. The Metis Nation is a partner and resource that all non-Indigenous communities, with the provinces, territories, and federal government, should be engaging with in the development of their emergency management programming.
