In support to the #lungcancerawarenessmonth, the American Cancer Society is publishing new guidance and recommends annual screening for at-risk population. It's also possible to go beyond LDCT for early lung cancer detection. At Biomark Diagnostics Inc we're currently evaluating the first #metabolomics blood test for early lung cancer detection in a large prospective clinical trial using a multimodal approach to predict lung cancer risk and determine EGFR mutation profile in a #lungcancerscreening population. In an effort to reduce lung cancer mortality rates, the American Cancer Society's new guideline recommends annual lung cancer screening for people aged 50-80 who smoke or formerly smoke and have a 20-year or greater pack. This guideline is a critical step in reducing the number of lung cancer deaths due to smoking history. Research shows that expanding the screening age, eliminating the "years since quitting" requirement, and lowering the pack per year recommendation can lead to improved outcomes and more deaths prevented. https://lnkd.in/eZbYVjrq

Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. I am glad to see the screening guidelines for lung cancer being adapted to include more at-risk patients. The fight against lung cancer will be a long one, but I am certain that the current efforts by governments, industry, NGOs, and healthcare organizations will result in a significant reduction in the social and economic impact of the disease in the next few years. Understanding its two main tumor types, Nonseminomas, which tend to grow and spread rapidly, and Seminomas, which are more responsive to radiation treatment, is crucial. According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 9,190 men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer, and tragically, 470 will lose their lives to this disease. Recognizing symptoms early can lead to better outcomes: watch out for a lump in either testicle, a feeling of heaviness or swelling in the scrotum, lower back pain, swollen lymph nodes, and unexplained weight loss. Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women in the US (not counting skin cancer), and unfortunately many of us know someone who has been impacted by it. Thankfully the number of deaths from lung cancer continues to drop, due to fewer people smoking and advances in early detection and treatment. At the same time, we are observing a reduction in the incidence of disease for several reasons. One significant factor is that patients are getting screened, adopting healthier habits, smoking less frequently, and making choices that contribute to their overall well-being.
