Medical School Clearing Advice Last year the following had places in clearing: ◾️Buckingham Medicine Clearing (private med school) ◾️St George’s ◾️King's ◾️Hull York ◾️Queen Mary's Malta (private) Then there were some like UCL and Leicester who on clearing day offered places via their waitlist and Sheffield who, if you called them, and had the grades offered an interview (they did not formally appear in clearing). This year lots more medical schools will use their waitlist rather than clearing- which is more cost effective for them. Remember if you enter clearing you are still competing with a large number of people for a few spaces, you WILL need to attend an interview (online usually) and most will require a competitive UCAT score as well good A level grades. But a small chance is better than no chance! #clearing #medicalschool #ucas

"Pre-med" is a term college students use to show that they plan on attending medical school and are taking the right classes to do that. However, there aren't official pre-med majors; instead, students who are pre-med can major in whatever subject they want and just take the classes needed to apply to medical school. https://hubs.ly/Q02rdVWf0

The MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) is a standardized, multiple-choice exam designed to assess a candidate's readiness for medical school. It evaluates knowledge and skills that are considered essential for success in medical education and practice. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the MCAT: The MCAT is used by medical schools in the United States, Canada, and some other countries to evaluate applicants. It provides a standardized measure of academic knowledge and critical thinking skills, helping admissions committees compare candidates from diverse educational backgrounds. Students looking at medical school can call us for directions and help. Especially international students and families. #international students #medical school applicants.

Most troublesome thing I heard at Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) LSL 2023 in Seattle? From a group of pre-clinical faculty: 📑 "What is even the point of year 1, year 2 in medical school anymore?" 🚩 "I don't even know what our role is, no one comes to class, we can't even get the students on campus". 💻 "We don't have any support for what we are being asked to do- moving away from lecture based instruction!" Its the worst of both worlds- calling it "flipped classroom" in name only while continuing to ask students and faculty to operate in a traditional pre-clinical curriculum. Lacking a big picture of the continuum from year 1- year 4. Mixed messages on USMLE and COMLEX prep. What problems are you seeing in your institution? What schools are doing something right? Where do we go from here?
