An important case study to read.
"Reliance on school security and police to address typical youth behavior contributes to students being pushed out of the classroom and into the school-to-prison pipeline. In addition, a school criminalization culture causes Black girls to suffer other harms that are often invisible to those who don’t experience them." This case study and report by the National Women’s Law Center and the Southern Poverty Law Center with Black girls in Miami-Dade County Public Schools demonstrates how critical insights can come from centering Black girls in the school safety conversation. #education, #socialjustice

Do boys from underprivileged backgrounds face heightened academic challenges compared to girls of the same age, with the educational system showing a propensity to prioritise girls? Furthermore, do these boys, particularly those at risk of involvement in gangs and crime, experience a lack of support not only within the education system but also from West Midlands Police , local government, and central authorities? The potential impact of this pilot program extends beyond individual schools. If successful, it could serve as a model for statewide reforms, leading to broader changes in how schools across Pennsylvania handle discipline. This shift could ultimately contribute to reducing the school-to-prison pipeline, a phenomenon where harsh school disciplinary practices increase the likelihood of students entering the criminal justice system.

Alleged sexual assault of a twelve-year-old child, Jane Doe, by her speech therapist, Matias Cuevas. Doe seeks to hold the school liable because it contracted with a company that negligently hired special education instructors like Cuevas, failed to perform its own background checks on the instructors sent by that company, and did not adequately supervise those instructors. Doe alleges that Cuevas sexually assaulted her because he believed her disability (a speech impediment) would prevent or hinder her from accusing him of wrongdoing. Completely reasonable, grades are a transitory snapshot of ability, whereas the rules of behaviour stay with you for life. Our country could definitely use this type of discipline in our schools A good strategy of action There is a lot more to teaching children than simply what is in the books. A lot of what kids learn from textbooks is useless in real life and a waste of time. Teach kids how to navigate society and respect others. Teach them values and decent behaviour. There would be a lot less juvenile delinquents and responsible children. Teach them practical tools that they will truly need and utilize. #knowledgesharing #interactiveexperience #behavioralhealth #education #educationforall #educationalsupport
