Republican congressional energy leaders have weighed into the controversy over the International Energy Agency’s role in the low-carbon transition, sending IEA head Fatih Birol a lengthy letter that said the agency has “strayed from its core mission — promoting energy security” and instead “become an ‘energy transition’ cheerleader.” Learn more >> https://bit.ly/49ekM5O #energypolicy #IEA #energyoutlook #energysecurity #energytransition

It's an election year, and talk about "energy independence" has been a hot topic for discussion. So, what does it actually mean? Energy independence means producing more energy than we consume, and currently, it's hard to actually say whether the US is energy independent or not. According to Andrew Campbell, executive director of the Energy Institute at the University of California, Berkeley, energy independence is really just a "political slogan." But the reality is, talk of energy independence could result in a BIG impact on our environment. When politicians talk about energy independence, they're really talking about whether or not the United States will choose to drill or frack in order to produce oil and gas on our land and offshore nearby, both activities that have serious environmental consequences. But in an ideal world, the United States could reach energy independence by transitioning to a clean energy economy instead. Here's our message to voters: ask your candidates what they mean by energy independence and make sure their path to independence aligns with your values. We hope that more candidates will adopt platforms that envision a clean energy future this election cycle! #cleanenergy #winstonsalem #energyindependence

The past five years were one of the most difficult periods in European energy history: now it's time to take stock and look towards the future. The feat of cutting off Russian gas supplies; ferrying #GreenDeal reforms despite polycrisis; and making the energy market resilient while not neglecting #decarbonisation goals. 🎤 Simone Fant interviewed for us Kadri Simson, EU Energy Commissioner. Despite concerns about the potential impact of a Republican government on the transition to green energy. There are promising developments. Last March, for the first time, the fossil fuel-rich state of Texas generated more electricity from solar energy than from coal. The clearest sign that economics has changed climate policy in Texas came last year, when several bills to make it harder to build new solar and wind power plants failed to make it to a vote. Positive signal for the future of the energy transition. Source: Financial time #ESG #impactinvesting

Great to discuss my thoughts on Labour's energy policy with Utility Week's David Blackman. Some further reflections on that: 🃏 End the Texas Hold 'em game of Target Inflation. No one is not developing Renewable/ low carbon projects because the UK capacity targets are insufficiently ambitious. ⏰ Relatedly, avoid arbitrary deadlines. Yes it's tempting to pump capacity targets and cut time targets - but those are sideshow issues. 🔐 All Parties are aligned on the three key issues of energy security, decarbonisation and the price of energy. Yes it is now uncool to refer to that as the trilemma; but it is still there and it is Ok to agree on it (if in doubt: compare Labour's recent energy press release with Johnson's 2022 Energy Security Strategy). 💸 Be honest about the actual issues. What will you do to tackle: 1/ Grid capacity/constraint issues; 2/ Technology & demand risk in new tech (H2, floating wind, long duration storage); 3/ Investor risk in multi-decade mega-projects (CCS, new nuclear); 4/ Supply chain capacity issues (a global issue) 🚗 One for the Conservatives, DO NOT make the energy debate just about gas boilers and EV cars! That shows a major lack of ambition/ability to get the bigger picture. #energy #decarbonisation #netzero #Osborne Clarke https://lnkd.in/dtGZvqAc

Former Trump Administration National Security Advisor and founder of American Global Strategies, Robert O’Brien and our CEO, Neil Auerbach, argue that Republican #energy policy should focus on increasing domestic production of both fossil fuels and #renewables, in a move that will simultaneously lower domestic energy costs and reduce U.S. carbon emissions. Their new op-ed asserts that a comprehensive “all-of-the-above” energy policy is good for our national security, energy security, economic growth and environmental stewardship, and is a winning message for Republicans to take into November. https://lnkd.in/eWCRRRiT
