Exciting news from the U.S. Department of Energy! As part of President Biden's Investing in America agenda, the DOE is offering up to $530 million in technical assistance competitive grants through the Latest and Zero Building Energy Codes program. This initiative supports the adoption of the latest model energy codes, zero energy codes, building performance standards, and innovative codes—driving energy savings, reducing climate pollution, and creating high-demand jobs. Homes built to current energy codes are nearly 40% more efficient, cutting costs and emissions. This funding opportunity, funded by the Inflation Reduction Act, is open to states, territories, and local governments with code adoption authority. It's a chance to develop a skilled workforce in the latest building technologies, fostering community engagement and inclusive programs. Current-C is here to help with innovative sustainable building solutions for these grants. Let's shape a clean energy future together! #CleanEnergy #BuildingCodes #Sustainability #InvestingInAmerica #RenewableEnergy #Innovation

Still reading through this but want to emphasize this could be a game changer for building performance standards and stretch codes: -$420 million for innovative codes at/above zero-energy levels (not as far away as you might imagine) -Grants up to $20 million each -Up to 100 grants And the methodology, calculating impact in total savings rather than building-level savings, will bring BPS to the fore. Most of the buildings we'll live and work in in 2050 are already built today. Needless to say, if you belong to or know a government who wants to take advantage of this and could use a brainstorming partner, drop me a line. #energyefficiency #inflationreductionact #decarbonization #climateaction #smartbuildings #buildingperformance #federalfunding

Excerpt: Using this funding, states and localities can coordinate to develop a workforce with skills in the latest building technologies, including how to properly install and operate to deliver affordable, healthy buildings. This represents an opportunity to create local, place-based jobs – bringing the community into the effort to improve their own homes, community centers, and offices. This opportunity will also support states, territories, and localities in creating more inclusive programs that align with President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative while ensuring that nonprofits, industry leaders, and states are prepared to deliver the energy efficiency projects needed to decarbonize buildings and create inclusive workforce training initiatives. Eligible states, territories, or units of local governments with the authority to adopt building codes can submit brief concept papers, which are required in order to submit a full application, due February 9, 2024 – full applications are due April 30, 2024.

Businesses and cities have made significant strides in advancing 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE). However, the benefits of clean energy, such as lower utility bills, cleaner air, and job opportunities, remain elusive for many households. That's why we embarked on a mission three years ago to explore how to reduce barriers to a fair, clean energy transition. Now, we have unveiled two new clean energy procurement strategy additions. One program extends the financial benefits of clean energy to local communities, while the other promotes long-term investments in housing infrastructure. Both initiatives were developed following discussions with government officials, national NGOs, and policy advocates to address the challenges of an equitable energy transition in their communities. https://ow.ly/TFer50RVN22 #RenewableEnergy #Decarbonization #CommunitySolar #EnergyEquity

New York City is taking positive steps towards a greener future by adjusting zoning regulations to ease the installation of rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This initiative will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the city's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions. The updated zoning regulations will make it easier for businesses and homeowners to install rooftop solar panels, ultimately helping to increase the city's renewable energy capacity. In addition, the adjustments to EV zoning will make it simpler for individuals to install charging stations, encouraging more people to make the switch to electric vehicles. These changes demonstrate New York City's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By creating a more supportive environment for renewable energy and electric vehicles, the city is setting an example for others to follow in the fight against climate change. #RenewableEnergy #SustainableCities #ClimateAction

Large infrastructure projects drive system-wide changes, but the newly released NSW Consumer Energy Resources (CER) Strategy takes a different approach — making it easier for individuals and small businesses to take direct action. It offers practical incentives to do things like switch to energy-efficient appliances or install rooftop solar. While these actions may seem small, when multiplied across the state, they create a powerful ripple effect. Here's what's new and coming as part of the NSW Consumer Energy Resources strategy: - Battery Incentives Households can access $1,600 to $2,400 in incentives for purchasing solar batteries, with an additional $250 incentive for joining a virtual power plant (VPP). (Available from November 2024) - Home Energy Saver Program A $238.9 million investment in the Home Energy Saver program to help lower energy bills and reduce emissions. (Launching mid-2025) - Community Energy Projects A new $5 million program to support community energy initiatives, empowering communities to actively participate in the energy transition and reduce bills. Every little step counts in building a cleaner, greener future. https://bit.ly/3B490iR #NSWEnergy #NetZero #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency #ClimateAction #SmallStepsBigImpact Dan Repacholi Chad Griffith Penny Sharpe
