Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits across the state over the holiday weekend. 🌡️ With the extreme temps, it's crucial to look out for those most vulnerable to heat-related illnesses including individuals with health conditions, the elderly, young children and those who live alone without air conditioning. Take time to prepare yourself by ensuring access to fans or air conditioners. Plan ahead for pets, seniors, children, and those with medical conditions. If you need immediate assistance during excessive heat, dial 9-1-1 for medical emergencies or 2-1-1 for transportation to a cooling shelter. https://lnkd.in/gx9dY4As #HeatSafety #StayCool #PDX311

To help protect ourselves and our loved ones, there are certain actions we can take to limit our exposure to the harmful wildfire smoke, including: Pay attention to the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) or other indicators of smoke levels in your area to help identify your level of risk and actions you can take to protect your health. Take note of any special air quality statements issued as part of your weather forecast. Limit outdoor activity and strenuous physical activities as much as possible when the air quality is affected by smoke. If you can, protect your indoor air from wildfire smoke by keeping windows and doors closed, and using a clean good quality air filter in your ventilation system. If possible, consider using a portable air purifier to remove smoke from your home and/or turning on your air conditioning. If it's difficult to find clean, cool air, contact your local jurisdiction for information on local cooling and clean air spaces. This is also something you can do during extreme heat events. If you must spend time outdoors, consider wearing a well-fitted respirator type mask such as a NIOSH certified N95 or equivalent respirator. Take care of your mental health during a wildfire smoke event. Anyone who is having trouble coping with symptoms of stress, anxiety or depression should seek help from a health professional. https://lnkd.in/gz9SEWdi #SummerWildfires #WildfireSmoke #PPE #BestPractices #DomesticManufacturing #Trust #StrategicManufacturing #SmartProcurement #RiverpointPPE Visit RiverpointPPE.com to discover how we can help your organization procure high quality, certified PPE, and get back to our work & our lives. As the snowstorm intensifies, the safety and warmth of our seniors are our top priorities. Here's what you can do right now to ensure safety during this critical time: --Stay Indoors: Avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary. Limit exposure to the cold and reduce the risk of falls on icy surfaces. --Keep Warm: Dress in layers even indoors, use extra blankets, and close off unused rooms to conserve heat. If you're using space heaters, ensure they're placed away from flammable materials and turned off when not in the room. --Emergency Contacts: Have a list of emergency contacts, including neighbors, family, and local emergency services, easily accessible. In case of a power outage, ensure you have a conventional phone or a fully charged mobile as a backup. --Check Supplies: Make sure you have enough medication, food, water, and other essentials to last through the storm and its aftermath. It's crucial to have these supplies within easy reach. --Communication Plan: Stay in touch with loved ones or caregivers through phone calls or text messages. Regular updates can reassure them of your safety and vice versa. At Right at Home of Central New Jersey, we are closely monitoring the storm and are ready to provide assistance to our seniors and their families during this challenging time. If you need support or have concerns about how to better prepare, don't hesitate to reach out to us at www.rahcentral.com or call (732) 967-0900. Your safety is our concern. Temperatures continue to rise across the U.S. Do you know the basics to stay safe? ☀ Never leave people or pets in a closed car on a warm day. ☀ If air conditioning is not available in your home go to a cooling center. ☀ Take cool showers or baths. ☀ Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing. ☀ Use your oven less to help reduce the temperature in your home. ☀ If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face. ☀ Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. ☀ Avoid high-energy activities or work outdoors, during midday heat, if possible. ☀ Check on family members, older adults and neighbors. ☀ Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. ☀ Consider pet safety. If they are outside, make sure they have plenty of cool water and access to comfortable shade. Asphalt and dark pavement can be very hot to your pet’s feet. Updated library information will be online at www.hcplonline.org or on the Harford County Public Library Facebook page. During periods of extreme heat, the Harford County Department of Emergency Services encourages citizens to follow these safety guidelines: • Stay indoors as much as possible and limit sun exposure. • If you do not have air conditioning, open windows and use a fan. • Drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity. • Never leave children or pets alone in a closed vehicle. • Check on elderly neighbors and other vulnerable citizens. • Keep pets hydrated with access to shelter. More information is on the county website at https://lnkd.in/eGcHppGE. Heat illness takes many forms, including heat fatigue, heat syncope (sudden dizziness after exercising in the heat), heat cramps, heat exhaustion or the most serious, heat stroke. Heat stroke is an advanced form of heat stress that occurs when the body is overwhelmed by heat and unable to control its temperature. A person with a body temperature above 104 degrees is likely suffering from heat stroke and may have symptoms of confusion, combativeness, a strong rapid pulse, lack of sweating, dry flushed skin, faintness, staggering, possible delirium, or coma. Individuals with any of these symptoms, especially older adults, should receive immediate medical attention.
